I keep hearing adverts for Audi at the moment, making a big thing of their 'Stay in Lane Assist / Active lane Assist', or whatever they call it. I know Merc also make a point about their Driver Assistance Aids, including Lane Assist and 'time for a coffee / pause' etc..

Having seen a Toyota Prius drive for about 25 miles on the motorway recently, all in the centre lane, with, as usual, very little, if any, traffic in the nearside lane, I was wondering whether Toyota have now included a similar system in some of their cars. Have they developed it further so that you actually can't get out of the lane that you are in, maybe until the Satnav says it's time to leave the motorway.

Are there any Toyota engineers/employees/owners on here that know?? Or was it just down to the driver smile

Toyota went out of their way to create a system that causes the car to drive against the recommendations in the highway code with no way for the driver to override the system and get into the correct lane.

It reportedly cost Toyota billions to engineer the system that way.

Nope, just a lane-hogger, albeit an "eco-friendly one"

Very few people spec the Audi one and when I'm in a car with it I don't turn it on.

Don't use side assist (blind spot thingamy) either.

Adaptive cruise is cool mind biggrin

There are far too many of these systems now which "assist" you to drive. Lane assist, lane departure warning, speed limit display, blind spot display, adaptive cruise, anything else?

Love the LKA (lane keep assist) on mine. Bloody useful on a long mway drive. That an ACC take the pain out of long journeys.

What are you talking about? Are you really saying that when activated, you cannot turn the steering wheel where you want it?

No, I am not. The OP asked a daft question, so I provided a daft response.

The high end lexus cars have been able to drive themselves for a few years but only small facets of this ability is used for certain "assist modes" whether speed or lane holding.

I like getting in front of them on the highway and slowing/speeding/slowing which causes the cruise control's following distance assist to slow and speed up thier car.

I think people in 'un-assisted' cars would also do the same.

If you cant stay in lane,or at risk of dozing off you should not be driving!
If you cant reverse park without parking sensors you should not be driving (how do you think an hgv driver parks on a loading bay ffs!)
If you cant be bothered to use your eyes to see what is aside you you should not be driving

Radar braking is just so wrong, what happens when you have to drive the wifes non radar car?

It's not meant for people to just stop using brakes or stop looking behind them, it's just an aid.

Granted, people may become complacent but who the hell would let the radar braking replace your use of the pedal? You'd be catapulted through the windscreen every time you came to a set of lights.
