That's clever I like it, having used illustrator I envy your talents, it boggles my mind how you can picture the individual shapes to make up the image, and then to be able to create them in AI just so is amazing!

Err thanks.

Is that a reference to the viral email conversation between a customer and a seller where payment is made in the form of a drawing...

Crikey. I was half-expecting some embarrassing painting like that Lambo one that's knocking about.

Decent start, but I'd say the bonnet needs better highlights because it doesn't make much sense atm.

Did you use a image of the car underneath and trace over it to get the shape right?

So there is no reference imagery at all?

Construction lines?

If this is freehand, in illustrator (hehe), then that is very nice indeed biggrin

It's a work in progress so more high/low lights to add that will help define the curves. Based on a photograph but then all hand drawn, not 'live traced' as the latest version of illustrator can do (badly)

Live trace isn't great but not sure why you wouldn't just use a image as a base to make sure you get the lines right. Surely you are just making it harder for yourself? Can we see the reference photo?

I do like the crispness you get from Illustrator though, very satisfying but I find it time consuming. Side is nice, as are the wheels just sort the bloody bonnet out!

Top job smile

I too was a little bored so I have dug this up. My son did it in MSpaint a few weeks back. I think you'll agree, he could easily have a career in graphic design, even at the age of 10.

Cheers for the comments.

Your son has more talent than some of the designers we've had here over the years.

Ah, the reference image explains the bonnet. I thought it was just a simple surface but apparently not, bit more detailed than I imagined.

And yea the fact you can blow any image you make up to whatever you want is great, it can get tiresome doing A0 @ 300 DPI though, I find the more recent versions of AI to be quite slow and cumbersome. I still use CS3!

I'd model it in 3D then use an appropriate toon shader and render at the required image dimensions winkbiggrin

Am on CS5 here and it's worth the upgrade from CS3. Regularly draw images 10+ metres wide, no problem at all as long as it's all vector based and your mac is fast enough, DPI has no real relevance to vector based programmes.

he should be a designer then, the mac will flatter the little talent he has.
