Upgrade or replace?

I'm using a mac mini with plex as the basis of my home theatre driving a 40" Sony LCD. Thus far I've been using a stereo amp but yesterday I picked up a basic AV receiver (Sony STR-DH520) and am now thinking of getting a 5.0 or 5.1 speaker setup. I'm actually very happy with the sound from my stereo speakers although they are quite old - they are musical fidelity reference 2's.

I just wondered if folk thought it worth getting a centre and rear speakers to go with the existing or scrap them and buy a matched set? The rears would need to be very compact.
