Completely pointless. I imagine you slow down for speed cameras anyway? The dreaded lasers don't use flashes and can read your plate like a book...er, a plate. So you're still gonna be nailed.

To be honest, if you're that desperate, don't fit plates - it's non-endorsable and you'llnever get a speed ticket. Of course, you'll get stopped a lot by all those police cars out patrolling the streets..

I've heard of a guy driving around in a mondeo with a number switched on his plate, seems to do the the trick
never had a ticket so I'm told, he just swaps the plates for MOT's. NO, its not me !

It could work with rear facing gatso's. This product used to be available via Phantom Plates along with some diffusers etc. Problem is, their website seems to be 'down' or they don't exist anymore Some of their products were quite interesting.

BTW, any positive act designed to negate a GATSO is an Obstruct Police charge so having a plate over your own polate which is obvious could get you into trouble.

That's why I never bought a diffuser for the rear but the spray was interesting. You could deny having applied it if push came to shove. I'd like to see a UK test. It was also a lot cheaper from Phantomplate! You only need a bit of mud for the front plate.

The one in your windscreen Brette. I can only assume at speed it came loose, passed through that enormous hole between your fog lights. Since this hole appears to be some sort of 'air intake' one can only assume it is connected directly to your winscreen demist vents - the plate popped out there only to get stuck by some sort of radar detector bracket...

As for dodgy plates, I believe they didn't work but they were in a win win situation because the illegal nature of the plates meant you couldn't really go to trading standards...

It's an offence to use a fraudulent plate under the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act. Police check the plate and it comes straight back off the PNC as a different car and you think you're not in trouble?

C5 Corvettes are the most difficult cars to catch with a laser. Yellow ones with black arses especially!

The polycarbonate front and rears are extremely laser absorbent as carbon is the most absorbent material.

Also I quote from the Blinder website regarding colour....
"
Further, vehicular color is important in laser targeting and successfully gaining a speed-reading. Laser is light. White is the best reflective color as it reflects all colors while black absorbs all colors. A black Firebird with no front license plate is almost impossible to target with a police laser gun. There are no reflective surfaces and the car's black color absorbs laser emissions. A white car is best color for laser guns."

As for driving around without plates, it could also be a charge under "obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception" - i.e. fraud.

Obviously in the first instance difficult to prosecute, but a few repeated offences....

There's surely no point targetting a black Firebird with no plate. In practice, the police aim for your very reflective number plate. They certainly have no problem with my black Camaro. Unfortunately.

Saw one this morning being driven by a civvy at 75+ MPH in the middle lane of the M4, he never once used the inside lane regardless of traffic levels he sat in the middle lane.
Last week saw one on the A34 doing in excess of 90MPH, which I had had my video camera with me.

Drove past Chatham police station yesterday afternoon at around 3.30. I counted 6 illegally parked police cars. 3 were on the road on double yellows and 3 were parked with all 4 wheels on the pavement. Not a traffic warden in site.

ONE RULE FOR THEM AND ANOTHER FOR US - THATS WHY THEY HAVE NO RESPECT.

I've passed 2 vans in the last month - one in Chipping Norton and one in Guildford. They're getting everywhere!

I see them nearly everyday in Kent. Often more than once. So be careful driving through Kent!!! They are always on good roads with a too slow speed limit (usually a new limit)where it is safe to drive at a higher speed.

Just been out and noticed that the yellow Suzuki GSX-R that was behind was in fact a police bike - not too hard to spot from a distance as the rider had police style gear on.
