Seriously, not all kids of 17/18 are stupid when driving but any kid of this age in such a car - recipe for disaster in most cases right?

insurance must have been sky high - well over 10k, if they were at all insured!

Hmm probably named driver on parents policy..... not one insurance company would touch anyone under 21 on such a high risk car.

I think 10K is probably cheap, I've tried to insure my 18 year old on every 1.1 car I can think of and can't get anything under about 7k so 10k for an Evo sounds a bargain.
Thus assuming the car wasn't stolen and was insured....

Totally the wrong car for the inexperienced driver but unfortunately what is sensible and what is desireable are two different things. Might not have had insurance in their own name as like you say, it would be a fortune.

17 and an Evo wow wonder how he afforded the insurance on that if indeed he was driving legally.

Unfortunately it seems it was too much power and responsibility for him to handle.

17 year old driving an Evo!? I'm going to assume it was a case of TWOC myself. Hope no innocent parties got caught up in the mess.

RIP for the deceased in any case.

So sad the driver survives and the passenger is killed.

A shame, of course, but I can't help but think the kind of person who has no respect for an Evo (or any other quick car) at such an age would end up in the same place with access only to a 3-cylinder Corsa.

Well yeah for an Evo it probably would be about that, insurance in Scotland does seem to be considerably cheaper than in England and if it were down the borders it would be even cheaper than the average I would imagine.

Would you even get named driver for that? I have a tatty old 1.4 Clio, named driver for my lad came in at around the 4-5k mark. Impressive as the car is only worth £500.

You have to ask yourself if that was the case what parent happily adds a young kid to an Evo Policy? Mine would love to be added to my TR7 policy, but I could envisage what would happen putting an inexperienced kid behind the wheel of that let alone an Evo.
Sad situation all round though.

Given the type of car and age of occupants good chance their family or friends frequent this forum.

There will be an inquest, and until that verdict is in what is there but idle speculation that may upset or offend?

Tragic, regardless of the circumstances.

there are many talented young drivers out there, especially as it seems to be getting more popular to jump from karts into cars these days with the ginetta juniors etc. whats to say the young lad could handle the car and only crashed due to a fault of the road / another reckless driver etc. cant speculate it was due to not controlling the car when all the details arent known

Indeed, and I've seen enough 1.1 engined cars being driving stupidly enough to kill all aboard.

£10 says it was driver error.

If the car was stolen at least one of the occupants will have been a promising footballer.
