I do a 30 mile commute everyday which takes about 45 minutes each way!
I currently have been driving a clio 182, which return about 31 MPG with careful driving and the occasional high speed friday night trip home.
Previously I had a Subaru turbo wagon which was doing about 24 MPG.
My question is to PH'ers what car should I buy next I like the Alfa GT diesels, BMW 3 CD diesels, Honda Civic Diesels but whats best in your opinion? I want to spend about 6K.

Kia Pro C'eed. Nice-looking diesel coupe... £6k should get you one with reasonable miles that is probably still in warranty!

Even looks OK in hearing-aid beige!

That will be my budget-ish for my next commuter. I've got 120 miles per day but not interested in the Golf/Passat/Focus/Mondy type cars.

I'm using a E36 318is ATM bought as a stop gap for £1200. It does ok, returns 36mpg and has never let me down in the 14 months I've used it. Its now on 127k miles.

I would like to go for another BMW so my choice would be a 320Cd SE with full leather, climate, cruise etc..

Colleague has a Alfa GT diesel and likes it but to me it just doesn't look right from some angles.

Does a diesel Volvo C30 fit in that price bracket yet?

Yes, but it will be very high-mileage. Great cars though.

It's a 3 door hatch. Too much VW dogma for you.

Call it what you like, it's a lot better looking than the 5-door hatch.

Um... is 30 miles per day enough to justify a Diesel?

That's what I've just been thinking. Originally I thought he said 30 miles each way.
Got to be a petrol if you are only doing just over 7000 miles a year. The difference in cost of fuel would be minimal.
