Supercars of the 80's - Need a list
Discussion
Hey guys & dolls!
I'm going crazy trying to find a comprehensive/somewhat reliable list of the fastest production/semi-production cars of the hazy eighties!
I'd like to know which car was labeled as the fastest in each respective year. There have been some discrepancies when I've searched the web for this - mainly concerning the definition of a 'production car.' But I don't really care - real production cars or really speacial cars - either way, I just wanna know who was fastest each year.
So, if anybody's got a link or some fearsome insight on the matter, please, do let me know.
Okay, this is something I do know: the RUF CTR 'Yellowbird' was the fastest in '87 - destroying its competition with a top speed of 211 mph. But, Ferrari F40 was hailed as the fastest production car in the same year - with 200 mph. Now, I am in serious doubt there were many more F40s produced than Yellowbirds.
Anywho, I wanna make a complete list: Fastest in 1980:__________ Fastest in 1981:___________ and so on, until 1989.
Thanks,
Dicky

Close the thread....
Only the original XJ220 prototype appeared in the 80s, at the NEC Motor Show in October 1988. The first production prototype wasn't built until May 1991, so it's more of a 1990s supercar imho.F40

Porsche 959
Lamborghini Countach - although produced from 1974, the LP500S and 5000QV were specific to the 80s, and adorned more than a few bedroom walls in that decade.

Here's some info-

The Aston Martin Bulldog wasn't a production car, but the obvious ones are the Lambo Countach and the Ferrari 288 GTO (which is still the most beautiful Ferrari imo)

very difficult to ansser here, as some smart-alec will always say "yeah but the wheelnuts were used in Dece 79, so its not an 80s supercar..." which means , according to them that you can only count a car which was designed, built, sold and production stopped in the 80s. Silly sods..
I'd include the XJ220 as it is very much a product of the 80s- the idea, the design, engineering.
Others to think about:
Aston V8 Vantage Volante
Aston Vantage Zagato
Testarossa
288GTO
928
Panther Solo
Ford RS200
Cizeta V16
959
911 Turbo
Lister-Jaguar XJ-S
Countach
