You currently have this:

1) You live in the hills of Yorkshire so need access to a 4x4.
2) You have a 3 year old and a new born (so need back seat room and decent boot space for buggy etc.)
3) The FFRR is worth about 14k and you have another 3k spare to top up to £17k.

Option 1:

P38 RR 4.0 V8

AND

996 Carrera 2

Option 2:

Panda 4x4

AND

M5

OR... should I just be sensible, keep the FFRR (which I've just dropped 2.5k on a new gearbox and transfer box) and be happy?

Choices choices.

My thoughts exactly. Get a cheap workhorse and buy a Lancer Evolution with the cash left over.

My mates dad has had a similar dilemma, you will not beat his combo for the money he had 19K.

Landrover discovery Td5 good low mileage example (maybe even a facelift for 7K)

He then had 12K left over so bought an Z3M Coupe .... but if you want four doors then an E39 M5 would be top of the list with cash to spare for repairs.

If £13,000 is the budget. I reckon:

> Focus ST3 - £10k-£11k

> Pajero/Shogun. £2k-£3k

Job jobbed. If the 4x4 is primarily for winter, why fk a good one?

Hmm, not really interested in Evos/Scoobies etc.

Budget of c.17k.

I thought my two options easily possible:

P38 - 2.5-4k
Panda - c.1.5k
996 C2 - 11-14
M5 - c.15-16k

Not really considered Jap 4x4, will have a look...

£17K makes it even more interesting.

I reckon:

1) £3000 on a solid Shogun for 4x4 hack duties
2) £2000 on a summer classic.
3) £12000 on a mint ST3 Focus.

An a slightly releated note, what model is the RR? The ones ive been looking at recently all have crappy small wheels on, or big 147" drug dealer wheels on.

Are those HSE wheels?

You lot sound like my wife re sticking with what I've got wink

Probably the best idea though. My RR doesn't have too many issues as such. Just had the gearbox done which was to be expected. Other than that all is pretty perfect.

If the question above was about my wheels, they are original LR wheels called 'Stormer' in 20''. Would rather have 19's on but not enough to go through the trouble of swapping them. Also they have £700 worth of new tyres on...

All other options can be ignored

Watch for borkage on the P38 however....

If you are in the same part of yorkshire as me, Do NOT buy an evo or scooby.

for one, they are nearly all knackered due to Bradford, and Keighley Trade Centre. For another they get stolen as a weekend hobby around here. you will get followed home one night. it's not an if, it's a when.

as for the choices, go for a volvo 4x4 for the family, safe as well. then whatever you have left for something sporty and 2 seater smile
