307 CC "vs" Megane Cabriolet
Discussion
Hi there all... Currently have a SAAB 9-5 Aero and although a cracking car - I fancy a bit of open top motoring for the summer!
New as possible - No more than £3.5-£4K - Must be able to get 4 people in (well 2+ baby seat!) and have a fairly good boot... Would like something that is not too bad a steer, coming from the Aero and being an ex Alfa owner...
I have narrowed it down to the 307 CC and the Megane Cabriolet.

Also is the Astra 2.2/2.0 Turbo Cabriolet any good:

Any opinions or alternatives?
Cheers

New as possible - really???
I'd sooner put my money into a VERY tidy E36 BMW 328i for £3k

Or if age is more important than performance a E46 320i for £4k

As mentioned above, BMW is the one to go for. The 2.8 M52 is a peach. Delightfully torquey with a (deceptively) smooth delivery. Would suit an auto too.
Alternatively, why not a cabrio equivalent of the SAAB?
307CC and Megane Cabrio = for girls.
Having experienced my Mum's Megane Cabrio when she had it i'd recommend not buying one. Slow, thirsty, uncomfortable, camp, handle terribly, faulty (it will be faulty). Also the only thing more imasculating than driving one is having to take it to Renault to have a headlight or indicator bulb changed (which you will have to, about twice a week) unless you have the time and inclination to faff about doing it yourself (which you won't wnat to becuase you might break a nail, which will be a concern for you, becuase you'll own a Megane Cabrio).Alternatively, why not a cabrio equivalent of the SAAB?

BMW all the way...

Says its a 318 so pretty slow especially as a convertible, it does look lovely though, I always thought those wheels looked superb.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...

Get the BMW, or perhaps one of these:

Step away from the Frenchies.

Amusing.
king hills! If the 307 is anything like our 308 I'd imagine you'll find the ride harsh, badly damped, the driving position an uncomfortable hybrid between VW Transporter and Golf, and the gearbox loose, indirect and lazy. Other than that, it's not a bad car.
I'd be looking for a 6-cylinder E46, a 1.8t or 2.0t 9-3 or a 1.8T/3.0 quattro Audi A4 Cabrio.
