Brakes For Track Day
Discussion
Hi All
I'm doing my first car trackday at Brands on June 17th (Hope to see a few of you there!) and I was wondering. On my half dozen or so previous motorcycle trackdays, my breaks have started to fade toward the end of the day. I am fairly certain that this is going to occur alot quicker in the Chimaera. My question is, am I correct to assume this and would upgrading to grooved discs and higher temp pads help at all? Have any of you made this mod and did you find it worthwhile?
cheers

Yes - get some EBC Turbogrooves & Greenstuff pads. Oh, and replace brake fluid with DOT 5.1 if you haven't already, or you might boil your fluid (been there, done that).
Worth doing, and shouldn't cost you too much (cost me about £200 for discs & pads including fitting)
These are excellent value for money (cheaper than standard TVR parts, and good enough for fast road, medium track use (IMHO of course)....
cheers,
Craig

I had Tarox discs and pads (nad some strange brake fluid) on my 500, and these performed perfectly.
Apparently some people have had problems, but that may have involved complications during the bedding in process.
For track days they excellent, and for road use more than adequate.

Does anyone know if you can change the callipers to something larger and also larger discs?
OK I've decided to go for the EBC Turbo Groove discs with Greenstuff pads. Does anyone have an idea about the size of the rotors and / or part numbers?

Am I right to understand that the only way to find out is by taking the rotors off and taking them to a shop and matching them up? That kind of rules out shopping around on the net really!
Thanks Fellas

If you don't then there is a chance that when they arrive they will be the wrong ones... At a minimum, measure them and check that they are the same. BTW you may have Granada Scorpio discs that have been redrilled to suit the four stud fitting. You might have Sierra Coswoth/Escort Turbo/Escort Cosworth/Sierra 2 litre/ Nissan Micra - all have been quoted (except the Micra) as being the ones that are fitted so who knows.

Not yet - but their estimate's in my hands! £525 + Vat is for starters then labour, hoses, rear disks etc. Not exactly cheap but still worth it IMO. I am concerned about the rotors though as they are drilled which others here have managed to crack (drilled rotors but not necessarily the same ones). None of their customers have (yet) managed to crack them... so who knows?

Does anyone have the 285mm Front Discs fitted with 4 Pot Calipers as offered by Pennisular as I'm very interested, technically they should be bl**dy good and at £500 nicker what a bargain.

got the ap racing set up with 320mm discs from peninsula and am very happy, with the brakes and service.
