I've had a look at that one following a good browse through the book after christmas and it is one on my list of things to do. Looks very good from your photo. I've already made the Steak, Guinness and Cheese Pie and a few other easy meals, and would like to tackle a few others soon as well.

Was the steak tender enough, as I worry with certain cuts that cooking it like he does it may be a little chewy?

There appear to many people who knock Jamie, and when you get down to why it's all about the fake Mockney stuff, from early on in his carer......

Personally I think his heart is in the right place, and he is trying his best to get people back to cocking food rather then ready meals n takeaways, the stuff he puts in his books is designed for everyone and presented in away that it doesn't scare people off...... I like what I've tried of his so far..... be giving this whirl for def.

I agree. He is a bloody good chef and a bloody good teacher of cookery too. His real passion shines through into his teaching making his recipes easy to follow and enjoyable.

I know he is the only chef i have ever seen where i have thought 'you know what i'll give it a go'

The steak indian does look good, the rib eye even better but maybe a bit tough for me to get right. May give one a go this weekend.

You can knock Oliver because he doesn't do French classics in his books like Gary Rhodes, but his books always have great recipes with loads of flavour, and they are never overly complex. So much so that when the 30 Minute book came out, me and the missus made loads of dishes from it just to try them out; and it's probably been our most used cookbook! He also tends to write about food in an appealing way without being too flowery (Nigel Slater's 'Appetite' book is full of this sort of thing, though I love his recipes too).

The Indian steak recipe is a good one, though I reckon I'd go for the Jerk Chicken if I could only have one thing from the book. Well, at least I've got an idea of what to make for tea tomorrow now, Indian Steak it is...

Agreed, I'm a massive fan. His recipes are always very tasty. I really like his Jamie at Home book - has anyone else noticed almost every recipe in that books involves lemon and olive oil? hehe

The other half got the 30 Minute Meals book for Xmas, so we gave the cassoulet a bash last night

Came out really well (unfortunately no pictures).

30 minutes is a bit of a hard time to keep to, especially the first time you prepare something. I think we managed it in about 40-45 minutes.

Kitchen looked like a bomb had hit it afterwards though
