How long do you'r front wheel bearings last ? I had some new ones fitted middle of last year, have since covered 4 trackdays. There is now a light grinding noise coming from the front of the car under braking and its not the brakes.

Could it be that the outer bearings simply need adjustment or is it more likley that the outer and inner berings are shot ?

I would say that wearing them out is highly unlikely unless they were faulty. Get the adjustment checked and go from there

I think I've done about 12 in my Turbo and 4 before that in my S2 and the wheel bearings are all still fine. If yours have gone already, maybe they weren't adjusted properly in the first place

It wouldn't surprise me if you'd have to adjust them after this sort of period and some heavy use. Mine tend to clonk when they have play in them though rather than grind. I'd take a look at the state of the grease in the outer bearing to see if there's any metal in it though.

PS. As an afterthought, do you still have the metal dust covers on the back of the discs? If so check to see if something has bent one in so it touches the disc. I've had this happen on another car and it caused a light grinding noise.

Not that I'm aware of... plenty of people seem to do it on other cars.

Are you running bigger alloys on your car? If so the camber adjustment bushes on the front may be Sha&&ed. Had the same problem on my 944 which was running larger alloys. Sounded like a wheel bearing but wasnt. Change the bushes for stronger 968 jobbies.

Hmm think you mean he castor bushes (the ones at the back were the wishbone bolts to the body of the car) ? Any hoo I've found some slop in the near side bearing and adjusted it out, following the haynes book of lies for guidance.

Wo'nt know if its sorted for a couple of days because the trackings miles out, just spent part of the weekend fitting a quickrack and I didnt have any alignment equipment to hand. It feels a bit odd at the mo !

If the noise persist I will investigate the castor bushes but to be honest last time I remember looking the were in good shape.
