Scrap block/heads/inlet /plenumn wanted for beer money :-)
Discussion
how quickly do you need them?
by the end of jan i should have changed my chim 500 plenum, afm, trumpets trumpet base, inlet manifold, fuel rail, fuel regulator etc to the same but upgraded. if it works well and i achieve what i am after then the other kit might be available, but its not scrap!
i do have a spare afm now if needed

End of Jan would be fine, but mainly after block and heads as i'm looking to fab a new intake/throttles...just want the old inlet stuff for reference/benchmarking against)by the end of jan i should have changed my chim 500 plenum, afm, trumpets trumpet base, inlet manifold, fuel rail, fuel regulator etc to the same but upgraded. if it works well and i achieve what i am after then the other kit might be available, but its not scrap!

If nothings availbale I can use mine, but wouldn't mind being able to cut up a scrap inlet and head too :-D
after i have tried my "upgrades" if they have not achieved what i want then i will go back to the previous setup which i know to be good.
if that happens then all the upgrades will be up for sale, ported heads, larger plenum with sandwich base and thermal insulator, larger bosch afm, complete loom/harness :-)and large smooth bore elbow

" upgrades" nothing special as I have no idea what I am talking about except what I have learnt in the year I have been a tvr owner.
My chim 500 rolling road bhp is approx 290 with no mods. When I bought the chim it had the wrong chip in it, I managed to buy a mark adams tornado chip and larger throttle body plenum and a few other bits at a reasonable price. So my only upgrades are induction based, although I am going to change some electrical stuff too, distributor if needed a spark amplifier he coil and plugs and magnet or leads. Smooth bore elbow etc.
If I make 300 bhp and increase the torque I will be really happy . I am hoping there won't be any driveability Issues which is why I am also addressing any sparking issues.as I say I don't know what I am talking about but it's a minimal no risk exercise? Especially as the son in law has a rolling road as part of his business
Any advice that's not too technical I am happy for it to be offered :-)

question: if it has been modified, other than obvious induction mods, where else should i be looking?
the last rolling road i went on was open day at hilton and moss and the bhp was 288 since then i have put on a smooth bore elbow and have a non silenced exhaust, i dont know if they will make any difference good or bad, but it sounds great :-)

If it's making 290 now before you've added the induction stuff it most probably is modified already...styandard are 260-270 for an average to good one...My chim 500 rolling road bhp is approx 290 with no mods. you might find the new stuff (unless the 290 IS already WITH the bigger inlet, chip etc) adds nothing...or you might have a new cam in there already...
290 is not a bad number...

Virgil, it has the usual 500 afm and same size plenum, i have the newer bigger ones ready to go on, you might find the new stuff (unless the 290 IS already WITH the bigger inlet, chip etc) adds nothing...or you might have a new cam in there already...

what you say about not achieving more may be right, in which case i may go back to the old setup. still pretty interesting to me to find out. how can i find out what cam is in there without spanners?
Thanks Lester
my heart says well alone, but the magic 300 keeps calling me :-)

Hmmm...reading a lot on here (and I've got to say, it's only reading) and if you have your new bits still in the box, it sounds like you must have had 'some' work already done. what you say about not achieving more may be right, in which case i may go back to the old setup. still pretty interesting to me to find out. how can i find out what cam is in there without spanners?

I'm 260 standard (apart from no pre-cats I believe)...people on here seem to do a fair bit to get close to 300 then lots (Cams, head work, etc) needed to get over 300...
Not sure how you'd tell if there were head/cam/inlet changes already...I guess it will be fairly obvious if the head and inlet have already been ported when you do attack it with spanners...
As for the cam...I guess you could pop off a rocker cover and check the valve lift with a dti and see if it's got a lot of lift...might be able to work out the timing and duration as well...but never done this so purely thinking out loud!
Virgil, not so sure about that,
here is a link to a rolling road day at hilton and moss http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
i am hoping to close to MPoxons figures and it looks like we would have taken a very similar route, except that i still have my precats in ( i think)
if you check his profile and see his engine shots they look very nice
Lester

Later on in the Mpoxon's RR figure thread, he himself quesitions it...the 280ish he thinks his mods shoud give does seem to be more realistic, but maybe you're both very lucky - they do vary a bit ;-)here is a link to a rolling road day at hilton and moss http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Whatever the figures are, enjoy and keep us posted with the results of the swaps..that's the real important bit :-)
