With the standard headlights I was thinking about upgrading to HID's. Im sure others have done this but wondered if it was relatively easy to do? I was thinking of 6000k as 8000k is a bit too blue.
The best' good quality' ones I have found were about £70.

Even 6000K are quite blue, I would go for 5000K if you can (especially with the original single headlamps as it looks chavvy otherwise IMO). You get more light output as well.

+1, i have the 6000K ones but only because the 4500K and the 5000K were out of stock and on a long lead time.

When they go FUBAR I will replace with the coldest I can get.

I got mine from HIDS-Direct: http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/

they were very helpful on the phone and sent out next day, I think it might even have been free delivery. They were a lot cheaper than all the other kits I'd seen - I went for the H4-3 at 4300k on the recommendation from somewhere on this forum.

I haven't however fitted them yet as I heard a rumour that non-original lights were not going to be MOT valid from this year onwards - not sure how/if/to what extent this is true. So might wait until after its next test.

Hids4u are now selling shielded bulbs as the retro fit to reflector lights does dazzle other drivers. I am changing my bulbs to shielded ones.

There's a thread on the TVRCC website that suggests our cars won't be failed for HID lights, i've get them on the Tam and am quite reassured by what i've been told, also don't forget to fit LED sidelights as the they will look very yellow against the white HID's

just to add, I would direct feed from the battery, and use existing to switch a relay.

I got mine from HIDS4u, a huge inmprovement, passed 2 MOT's, and I have never ever been flashed by oncoming drivers.

He admits this isn't always the case. The new mot laws have added a new perspective to the marketing.

The kit I have leaves the original wiring in place so if you need to you can just unplug the HIDs and replace with the original bulbs then return after the MOT.

An alternative solution is to find an MOT centre who understands our cars have crap standard headlights and turns a blind eye so long as there is no light scatter and the are adjusted correctly.

I assume this is for the cars with the updated headlights. Am I right that the original style headlights require a H4 bulb?

I have a kit at home but the wires are not long enough to fit the car.

Yeah, sorry Tuscan style lights. He does H4s too for original lamps.

For the standard lights, Auto express did a test recently and the Halfords 50% brighter bulbs came out tops

There's been some interesting developments in normal bulbs recently that might be an easier solution. Anyone tried any of the Night Tech bulbs yet?

Good post, thanks, not sure if I will just stick with a normal bulb yet to be honest. Probably hold off and see if any problems emerge with HID mot's.

the hid lights are a huge improvement but they do dazzle other drivers particularly on hilly roads. I would recommend for sub £100 just fitting them and if reqd swap bulbs back for mot. If poss stretch to some shielded bulbs.
