Maybe this is heralding the era of sensible fines? TBH 111mph is available in the blink of an eye in these cars it's a complete non event.
There's nothing in the story about him beig dangerous despite the idiot journo citing 'fatalities' so who cares?
Just out for a drive enjoying the car safely the way we do in Germany every day and well withing its design parameters, only displaying the wrong number on the speedo.

I wouldn't want to comment on 'safety' without first seeing the road and conditions. Some 30 limits are stupidly low. Some are stupidly high. I suspect the same applies here.

111mph does seem to appear rather quickly - and on a clear motorway stretch, why not?

I don't think you can do 111 on single carriageways in Germany? There's nothing in the story about him beig dangerous despite the idiot journo citing 'fatalities' so who cares?

I do know the road in question - one thing would hold me back from doing three figure speeds on it - tractors.
What annoyed me was not the speed but the idea that being rich and "important" means you get away with something I would not.
He's been fined the equivalent of an hour's salary.

I imagine the judge looked at the amount of menace the bloke caused and with nothing safety related in the report one can assume his only issue was showing 111 on the speedo instead of 60.I do know the road in question - one thing would hold me back from doing three figure speeds on it - tractors.

On that basis the fine is probably alright.
I doubt the judge took into account the bloke's rich.
Hey maybe he's lurking in here to talk us that 111mph frenzy first hand

Who's 'them' and what's the law being referred to?
"Them" = people who can buy their way out of situations. The law is referred to in the article - the local magistrate having said that if you get caught at 100+ you lose your licence.
I'd be fairly sure a local boy in a Subaru, which is just as capable of 3 figure speeds, would have had been banned.
My brother's ex-girlfriend got £800 and six points for 98mph coming off a dual carriageway onto single carriageway. She was doing 100+ but the copper told her he'd do her a favour because 100+ would lead to a ban. Her company did not write her a letter of support - in fact they gave her a written warning, as it was a company car.
