Any nominations for the best/cheapest/most effective way of re-sticking the silver heat protection back on to the inside of the bonnet?

Make sure you use the high temp stuff, normal contact adhesives don't tend to last all that long.

As with all contact adhesives apply to both surfaces & leave it go tacky before you bring the surfaces together.

I couldn't find heat-proof contact adhesive so used the ordinary type instead as I got fed up with the blanket falling on the engine every time I opened the bonnet - still going strong around 5 years later albeit with pretty low mileage. (I hoped that the heat-proof blanket would stop the glue getting too hot...)

I used this: http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1263-heat-resistan...
It wasn't cheap but it was very effective. The actual material is Alpha adhesives AF178 litre tin. They're based in Stourport on Severn.

Ive used clear silicon sealant on both bonnet and baulk head insulation matting. Gunned on the surface then spread it out with a spatula. The bonnet has to be removed and inverted as it takes about 12 hours to fully cure.

I used this too. 5 years on and no problems with it. (Plenty of problems elsewhere...)

It was the 'No More Nails' gunk in a gun I used. It holds on contact and you can move around, then it sets in a couple of minutes.
