On Radio 5 live.

I like him. I wouldn't have minded if he had been given the telly job.

Probably have missed it, but aside from DC who will be doing the TV work for the BBC?

Ben Edwards.

James might suit the radio coverage. And who knows, maybe he googled his name and... you know. Is thinking about modifying his style hehe

He might be OK on radio, some of the descriptions he used were really frustrating when you could see clearly for yourself, but could have much more meaning when you can't. Legard was good on radio 5 for commentary but it didn't translate to TV. The BBC will be well aware of the feeling towards JA and no doubt have done a mock transmission to see what he sounds like.

I think the BBC have done a good thing in signing James Allen
and also (I've read) they've signed (BTCC) Ben Edwards for the TV commentary.

But personally I think they've got it the wrong way round.
I would have preferred Allen for TV and Edwards for radio.

I grew to quite like James Allen in the later ITV F1 days.
Let face it, no one is ever going to live up to the legendary Murray Walker, but James Allen is one of the best around.
Sharp, knowledgable and professional.

I'm not 100% sure about Ben Edwards in the much higher profile role on F1 compared to BTCC.
He tended to grate on me a bit in BTCC, I guess we'll just have to see.

I agree.

I think i'm one of the few that never had a problem with him. At least he knew what he was one about (albiet an odd delivery). His Blog is excellent.

I think he'll come over well on the radio.

I used to like the Edwards Watson partnership for f1 back in the 90's on Eurosport.
Could be good!
