Original paintings / color of TVR 2500M
Discussion
Hello Fellowes,
I'm thinking about to get my 2500M from 1972 repainted.
For the time being, my car is between red and orange.
The original color seems to have been blue, a really clear one (i can see in the engine bay some blue and under the front bonnet).
Where can i find the original colors that wes available in 1972 ? With the original codes, it would be great so i could order the original color !
For the time being, i'm hesitating between :
- black
- orange
- yellow (like the lotus one)
Some pictures included.
Many thanks in advance
Jerome

That is great !
That was the thing i was expecting and waiting for !
Many, many thanks !
So now, i have the original colors available.
If somebody knows what is the reference of each one, that would be better ; sorry, the BEST !
Mine was originaly mediterranean blue so.
Not too bad, but quite difficult i think to watch everyday !
I was thinking to paint it in black, but as the black wasn't existing in 1971, i don't know...
Maybe marigold or yellow (it seems to be quite near the lotus yellow)...
Quite difficult !
But i will manage this problem !
Many thanks again

My 72 1600M has been black since I bought it in 1979, looks good with chrome bumpers but is unusable in the summer as it gets so hot, mine has no sunroof. I cannot leave it parked in direct sunlight with more than half a tank of fuel without popping the catch on the filler cap, my solution was to buy a red S2 Vixen for the summer

Since no "specialists" seem compelled to help can I suggest you cross reference the Glasso paint code.
Hi Steve,I found more posting from you about Glasso.
Searching on the internet did not help up to now.
Lot of reverences to glass!!!!
Will keep on searching.

If you look behind your"internet" screen you will find there is a world. Go out there and speak to an established paint supplier. With your "Glasso" paint code they should be able to cross reference the colour against other manufacturers. I have/had lots of paint manufacturer colour catalogues, ICI, Du Pont, H Marcel Guest, Ault and Weiberg. All the colours are there, its a matter of not relying on the interweb
Steve - recently spent some time with such a paint supplier. The chap went through all his old books but couldn't find a cross reference for the, allegedly, carnival red of our 3000M. I did smile when he said he could match it if I could leave a panel as a sample - not sure if he wanted me to take a door off!If anyone does have a modern ref. for carnival red I'd love to hear it please.
It does boils down to what you get these days for your 'relationship' with ANY supplier of goods...MY paint shop IF I send people there, would get the spectrometer out (4k worth of kit) and colour match to any piece of paint (I would advise under the bonnet OR inner door) BUT you are using their 4K worth of kit to give a colour match and this is the ingredients for their version of paint, END OF...they don't, won't advise, that this mix with work with ANY OTHER paint mixing system.
IMHO if you paint shop cannot find the money to invest in a spectrometer, then you need to move on and find someone who has invested in the tools to do their job.

Totally agree - downside of the internet is the number of people that would go to the paint shop, get the code and then buy it cheaper on the web. The same people would moan that "their" local paint shop has closed. IMHO if you paint shop cannot find the money to invest in a spectrometer, then you need to move on and find someone who has invested in the tools to do their job.

I'm sure the place I tried would have got the spectrometer out if I'd left the car (or a panel). They were just very busy when I popped in.
