Never had any problems starting before, other than when the alternator failed. So it must be related to this...
A few weeks ago my water pump failed and i suffered a burst water hose. The hose was the short section at the very top of the swirl tank. I was driving at the time and it didn't like this! The car started juddering so i stopped as soon as i could. As i came to a stop the engine tried to idle, there was a few pops/splutters and then it cut out.
I've now replaced the pump and hose, but the car wont start.
It turns over fine, and the fuel pump whirs, but it doesn't even attempt to start. I turned off the battery cut off switch in an attempt to reset the ecu and tried starting. It then turned over and at one point spluttered, but nothing else.
Any ideas what i need to do?
What sort of damage could hot water pouring over the top of the engine do?
Cheers

I would guess you have dirty water over the HT system. I suggest you clean all the HT components (coil, distributor cap inside and out, all HT leads) with a damp cloth and then spray with WD40 and try again. Also remember that if it is an ignition problem you will have flooded the engine by now so it probably will be a pig to start even after you've fixed the problem, so check and clean the plugs, consider pulling the fuel pump relay and crank it over to evaporate off the fuel already in the engine.
If it isn't this then you could have water in any of the sensors in that area (ignition amplifier, water temp sender, throttle pot, AFM etc) so it is a case of clean and dry out everything you can see, check the sensor readings with a multimeter, then head off down the normal trouble shooting route i.e. have you got a spark and fuel and so on.

Just got it started. It must have been flooded.
I tried starting it with full throttle. Nothing happened, but when i turned of the ignition, it spluttered a bit. So i gave it another go, and it spluttered a bit, then a bit more, then sound like it was almost there, then came to life.
It was extremely lumpy to start with - the car was really vibrating. Took it for a short drive round the block after letting it warm up. By the time i got home it was running fairly smooth.
Will check the coolant again and hopefully it will start with no problems, then take it for a longer drive. Fingers crossed!
