Hi, out of curiosity what seems to be the typical lead times being quoted for a 991S?

So they have no supply issues presumably which may mean their forecast was a bit optimistic. Is that down to the economic climate ?

I believe it to be a combo of economic climate, optimistic pricing and fashion.

Oh how I sniggered when an OPC told me last August that I wouldn't get a 991 for until late 2012, such was the waiting list. Smelled BS at the time.

Drove one last week. Very very good car though.

I remember WL OPC said it was 18m for the 997 in 2004, not sure if this is true but different economy in those day's.

Also....who buys a sports car at Christmas / winter? There's a few lambo's / ferrari's I've been seeing in dealers that have been there for 3mo+. Nothing like this really moves this time of year. They're all well priced, but weather's crap and people aren't in a sports car buying mood. We'll get a better idea of how the models received in summer.

Nothing to do with the time of year. This is the first new chassis for 14 years and they've taken about 3 new orders. As Bill Clinton famously said: "It's the economy, Stupid"

The 991 is probably excellent, and a worthy development of the '911' brand (if a bit more GT), but it isn't a 'rush out and buy' model.

It barely looks much different to the previous 997s, it's quite a price hike, most buyers will need to trade-in something (at a loss), there isn't that 'feel good factor' in the economy that motivates a big purchase, other 991 models and the 981 Cayman/Boxsters will be launched over the next few months.....

Think it will be a success, but Porsche might have to work a bit harder to generate sales.

Is it that much of a price hike though? I priced up a GTS4 the other day and it was the same money as a sensible spec 991 C2S with PDCC and Power Steering Plus (which you cannot spec on a 997).

I seem to recall seeing 997 C2S and GTS cars mid 80k so the 991 is about £5k more? Is that much of a price hike?

GBP 80,990 Base price GTS4
GBP 12-15k typical options
---
GBP 93-96k decent spec GTS4

vs

c.95k-100k decent spec 991S

so yes 991 is about 5k over a GTS4

But those are list prices. My brand new well optioned 61 plate GTS 2WD cost only £22,000 trading in a 22 month old CS2. That's about £70,000 for a properly speced car assuming high 40s for the trade-in, which seems about right.

So the delta 991 - 997 is pretty high until they start to discount the 991.

I suppose the acid test would be to see what trade-in they'd offer me on the nearly new GTS, but that would be a dangerous road to go down, eh Phooey?

When I specced it up the GTS 4 was the same price approximately as the C2S with PDCC, PSE etc. Remember you need to add leather to the GTS price plus (IIRC) PCM.

Just quoting some typical options on the 991 options list when one specs a 991.

Okay. Still not sure I am with you. What I was saying earlier was that it was necessary to add in to the GTS price some things that are "mandatory options" on the 991 and hence included in the base price of the car.

To give you an example, the GTS4 price includes alcantara and vinyl interior as far as I am aware. You have to add on leather as a cost option (£2k+ as I recall). There is no option to do this on the 991, it's leather, you cannot have vinyl to save money.

So, if you configure a GTS4 and a 991 C2S with approximately the same spec they come out at much the same price.

I stand to be corrected on any of the above of course.
