Ultima Mercedes V12
Discussion
I got a Mercedes S600 biturbo with ABC problems, was thinking about just selling it as is as repairs can be quite expensive. Just had this idea, does the engine fit in the Ultima chassis? Could be quite an "experience" to have an engine like that in an Ultima and could actually, if it fits, be done a bit cheaper than the LS7 option or am I wrong??

Substantially more complicated than an LS I'd imagine. Sounds like a great idea though.Wasn't there a guy tjhat ran a supercharged version of this engine in a cobra replica in PPC? The article said it was an all ally engine and very compact (60degree V angle). didn't mention length but if its anything like the BMW V12 it should fit shouldn't it?
As for induction, you could always ditch the turbos and go for a supercharger. How about a pair of rotrex blowers?
Chris.

if you've driven a V12 biturbo you would keep them, not really anything "out there" with that much low end power, and very smooth as well. The S600, which is a 2.2 ton car, does 0-60 in around 4.3-4.5 seconds, thats with a working ABC system though :-)As for induction, you could always ditch the turbos and go for a supercharger. Maybe I should get that car fixed.... :-)

its active body control, acting weird...
Ok thanks for that..... no hang-on still don't get it ?As to your quote that "it has bags of torque down low torque"
the thing you realy need with a light car is the ability to gain rev's very quickly low down torque is not so critical. The first record car was a over square free revving engine with a high rev limit.....
But saying that a V12 Turbo anything in a GTR would have to be cool, so go on be different, cant see it being worth any less than say a LS7 car, in fact it might even attract more attention.....

Jeffs twin turbo LS powered GTR was very proffesionaly fabricated. I have seen the car in person on more than one occasion. It was very fast and drew a great deal of attention. That said I enjoy my Ultima for many reasons but one of the main delights is my ability to enjoy working on the car. I pulled the motor shortly after the car was completed and running. This was a preplanned mod to install the dry sump and Kinsler injection. I had the engine out of the car and on a engine stand in 3.5 hours. As well constructed as Jeff's car is, I would bet that it would take 3 hours to pull all the plumbing and brackets associated with the twin turbo set up just to get ready to pull the motor. Furthermore if you read Jeffs notes on his runs at the Silver State events he indicates that the turbos where problematic. Remember Jeff has a substancail background as a driver and a fabricator, tunner. Part of the purpose of his GTR was to advance his company. Do you really want all those headaches listed above??? A 600hp LS7 Ultima is probably more car than 85% of Ultima owners including certainly me can drive to its limits. Think about it are you building the car to enjoy or are you trying to pump up your ego? This is not aimmed at any one person just in general to reflect on. Lee
My thought exactly Lee.
With "bags of low down torque" all you will do is spin the wheels in most gears. Then you will fit traction control which will limit the torque. Therefore all the trouble and expense (considerable) will produce a car that is no faster than a NA LS7 and a lot less fun.
