Family holiday advice Northern Spain.......
Discussion
Thinking of taking the ferry over to Bilbao this Summer and getting a villa for the family (young kids), probably with 'owners direct' having never been to this part of Spain and with so much choice within a days driving looking for some good intel.... Would prefer the beach close at hand and quiet(ish) village but within reach of population, any advice appreciated. Thanks.
I love Northern Spain, I haven't really got anything to share that may be useful for a family as I went on biking trips through the Picos D'Europa and Pyrenees - look at the pilgrims route and maybe do part of it on foot - it's a lovely area. If your budget allows then stay in some of the Paradores and drive from one to another (although booking ahead is strongly advised). They are national hotels - rather like the National Trust I guess, most are in the most amazing buildings such as old monastries etc (Leon is spectacular) Sos Del Rey is in a fabulous location, Santiago de Compostella is also (with the most amazing cathederal. There are some fabulous walks, beaches and cities - I guess it really depends on what you are looking for though.
