aaagh starter motor

Help please, just gone to start griff for afternoon. Did not fire on first attempt. Tried second time and no starter motor engagement just clicking sound. Any suggestions, do I need a new starter motor, or can I tap ut with a Birmingham Screwdriver?

Mine did similar resently. Turned out to be the earth strap on the chassis outrigger in the drivers side wheel arch. It was loose and after cleaning it and tightening it all was OK.

How do I access this

Jack up the car and remove the front drivers wheel. Its on the out-rigger near the chassis end

Hope it sort is, while your there give the starter a smack with a hammer

Thanks I kind of figured that it may well boil down to a well placed smack. I may well remove the starter motor to take a look. Is there a recon unit or is it going to be a new one. Assuming the above does not work

If your lucky it could just be a loose connection to the starter motor.

I'd guess you could get a recon unit if you wanted, same as an alternator etc.. I had a recon alternator on mine and it's been fine. Doubt there is anything special about it but I stand to be corrected after all it's a TVR and there are no rule books

I have noticed that a lot of people do heat sheild the starter to stop some of the heat soak damaging them. May be worth considering if you take it out.

It could be battery low or Knackered.Same symptems.

You were having a laugh, there was no way to loose that nut on the earth strap. Worked though, because I realised I was being a complete idiot and went back to basics. Checked the battery and cleaned the terminal posts and contacts, turned straight away and fired first time
