Wanted AB Gelder Sheffield key ring

And me.
I often had a run over on a Saturday in the 70's to drool over the showroom.
Full of Elans, Vixens, MGB's. The posh ones were over £1000, the less posh ones were just under £1000. My old Midget was worth about £450 at best so these beauties were well out of reach. Sharrowvale Road was the best site of the two. The building hasn't changed much.

Yes I was spending 5 or 6 hundred pounds, couldn't manage the magic £1000 barrier. Eventually I bought a TR6 for £800 then after my first promotion spent £5400 on a new TVR 3000M. (sublime to the ridiculous).
By that time 1978, the TVR franchise had moved to Dearne valley Motors in Roptherham.

Threespins - did you go to the TVRCC meeting at the top end of Chapeltown? I recall the club sec buying a new 3000m - the last one with overdrive in two tone green. Actually might have been a Taimar.
Vixen - no pics I'm afraid - I only had an instamatic and wouldn't have taken pics of car showrooms. They used to advertise in Motorsport though, so if you can drop on any from the seventies, you should find the advert. I can't remember if there was a picture - probably not.

I did join the car club in 1978, but the meetings were at the Beauchief in Sheffield at that time and I never got to a meeting. Reading the Sprint magazine I got the impression it was all rather "cliquey". I never knew that meetings were held in Chapletown.
My first 3000M was two tone blue also with overdrive.

The London Road premises were basically a showroom, with limited rear access as I remember. It was always crammed with sports cars.
I went to the TVRCC metings in the late 70's for a while and nearly bought a 2500M. I sacrificed that to get married. The secretary had a new 3000M (or Taimar), and the only other two I can remember were a white tweaked 2500M which went like the wind, and a 1600M.

I have one old Motor Soprt magazine from October 1973. On page 1133 is a full page advert for "Gelder Autos", so the name must have changed.
Open 10.00 to 7.00 Mon-Sat and by appointment Sunday.
247-261 London Road and at Sharrowvale Road.
At this time they were agents for TVR and Ginetta. 40 cars are listed.
3 new TVR's, plus 9 used. 5 new Ginetta's plus 3 used.
8 Triumphs, Mustang Mach1, Porsche 912, Scimitar, Sprite, Capri 3000, RX3, Rapier, Gazelle, Mini, Beetle. That's the sort of stock that would have me visiting today. Interesting that there are no MGB's.
