997GT2 or Turbo S?
Discussion
For those that have either (or both) what are the pro's and cons and how do they compare? (especially vs the 996GT2)
Getting itchy buying finger again and was tempted by the S having seen Cavs? run at Vmax but like the idea of the GT2.
Once again the GT2's seem to be at bargain basement prices atm which is deffo in their favour but PDK is probably the better option with all that power as I'm getting old and slow

.I haven’t owned a Turbo S but did move from a 7 Turbo to a 7GT2.
As different as chalk and cheese. The turbo, fantastic though it is, is a very capable sport touring saloon in comparison to the GT2 in terms of the ride and the feedback from the car. I mean no disrespect to the turbo, I liked mine a lot but the GT2 never fails to thrill even after 18 months. The firmer ride is not for everyone, if you come across a bad road surface or some potholes then you know about it but the pros far outweigh the cons, for me at least. Nobody can really tell you, you need to try both for yourself.
I haven’t driven a 6GT2 but I wouldn’t think the drive between the two would be so very different once the nanny aids have been switched off, I’m happy to be corrected though.
As far as I can see, there are only two 7GT2’s for sale at the moment so not a lot of choice. I’m also not convinced that the one which sold at under £74k recently has lowered the bar to that level for other cars coming up for sale but time will tell.
If you think you're getting old and slow you still have time to remedy it with the GT2.

Solihull Porsche have a 5k miles one up at a smidge under £90K. Looks like a tarts boudoir with all the exterior trims painted white. Apart from that it looks a good 'un.As different as chalk and cheese. I have owned a 6 GT2 and now own a 7 Turbo (with engine power uprated) and 7 GT2.
All are cars in which you could drive the length of Britain in and arrive in comfort. The 6 GT2 is a bit of a handful in the wet and not user friendly like its younger brother, unless very carefully set-up in suspension dept., and ride is much harsher.
The 7 Turbo is the perfect all weather, all year round tourer whilst the 7 GT2 is best used when the weather and roads are a little dry. I have used these models in all weathers but would say be a little cautious in the GT2's.

Depends on what you are looking for Jez. If everyday / mainly road use must be the S. The S is my daily drive so the PDK gives me effortless performance in all weathers with 25mpg economy. The GT2 is standard form is more demanding/challenging to the driver and probably more exciting as a result but on the road will not be exploitable or as quick as a well driven S, especially in normal UK weather. The S is just soooo fast and capable there is nothing that will beat you on give or take roads (from experience 458 and new GTR included). The PDK plays a big part in being able to exploit all that staggering pace so easily as well as making it so easy to drive so if that is a plus for you go for it !! If you are looking for a weekend car maybe the GT2 would be a better bet? Mastering manual gear changes will probably make it more rewarding though slower than the PDK S, and it terms of residual value I think the GT2 will lose less money than the S over the next 18-24 months. Also, if you do track work the GT2 would probably be better bet - the S is very very quick on track but I always feel that its a fast road car on a track rather than a car that's fast on the road but built for track use (ala GT models). For this reason a gen 2 Gt3 RS arrives next month - I'll be using it for track work, Sunday mornings and the odd European jaunt !! it wont be as quick on the road - but is it more special, a bigger challenge to drive/extract performanc from hence ultimately more exciting . Yes.

I already have several weekend cars
so its a daily I'm looking for. Presently filling that gap with an old Mk5 Cortina which is different tricky in the wet and great fun, and thats the point. I'm a little worried that the Turbo S would be just too good and I'd get bored with it.Powerwise either would be fine I'm sure, was also looking at the 599, DB9 and Maser but there's plenty more negatives with them.
I'm not in a tearing rush as I still have some tick on the 2 which I'll sort this summer as I intend to keep it. Thing is, I like the idea of eventually having a hattrick of 2's to stare at in my dribbly years. (Assuming the pension lump sum is worth anything come the day)so the 997 2 still keeps shouting at me.
