My dads dad had three cars that I remember, a Landcrab (Austin 1800), a Princess 1800 HL that I remember him getting new in 1977 (S Reg) and then his last car was Montego 2.0 HLS, fond memories of the Princess and Montego, despite the disgust levelled at those models, the Princess was mega comfy, my mum had it for a while, no PAS and heavy steering, will never forget her driving it with a B an H jammed in her mouth, grimace on her face using all her strength to turn it. He gave it my mum due to his Angina, after he used the Princess to all its wedgey potential when he caught our brick gatepost with it and destroyed it. He then got the Montego, it was super advanced to us back then, remember my grandad treating us to a scary ride up to 120 mph, fastest I had ever been back then. After he died my uncle had it, then my cousin so it got well used.

My other grandad who is still with us had a couple of Chevette's, his first was rear ended, casuing him whiplash, actual whiplash as opposed to a claim as that didnt exist back them, he then got a B reg Fiesta 1.1 in Maroon and his last car was a White Metro 1.1L which we still have for the kids to drive in the field, he is 90 now and gave up driving this time last year

His last car was a Proton Persona.

That one is the same colour and spec. Might be the same age but I'm not sure.
My Grandad on my mum's side was the proud owner of one of these!

Maybe started my love for Alfas.

As far as I'm aware my mums dad never owned a car. My dads dad had a few, the only one I remember is that he bought a brand-new mini countryman in the 60's and the same time as my dad bought a new mini. I also managed to get a brand new last of the line mini's in 2000 so we have a nice connection over the three generations.

One used to have one of these, in this colour

Luckily he gave up driving about 2 years ago, he was a danger to everyone on the road.

The other still has one of these

But luckily he doesn't drive it too much, he has discovered his bus pass and goes on endless free bus journeys to various wetherspoons. It is complete with a badly dented rear bumper, also the road sign outside his house has sat at an angle for a while now, he hasn't admitted it yet.

Sorry if I sound a bit sexist but Grandmas typically drive back in the day, they baked and stuff.

My grandad always had a terrible taste when it came to cars. The old boy will be 95 this year but thankfully for road safety statistics he stopped driving ten years ago. I can remember him having the following:

One of Serbia’s finest, a Yugo 45.

Straight out of Russia, a Lada.

Pushed all the way from Poland, a FSO Polenez.

Spanish copied engineering at its best, a Seat Marbella.

Oddly, I would fancy a blast in the Lada to see just how bad it was.

Neither of them ever learnt to drive.

One of them however, was a tool maker at Vandervell's in Acton in the 1950's, and was involved in making components for the Vanwall GP cars.

During my lifetime:

On my mother's side:
  • Beige Rover P6 3.5
  • Beige Austin Allegro Estate
  • Mini clubman (can't remember colour, may have been beige)
On my father's side:
  • White Escort mk2 Mexico
  • Silver mk1 XR2
  • Silver Escort mk3 XR3 (can't remember if "i" or not, I was young)
  • Silver Escort mk4 RS Turbo
  • White mk2 Astra GTE 16V
  • Silver Escort mk5 RS2000
  • Silver Escort mk6 RS2000
So you can see he was a Ford man who had a bit of a blip with the Astra.

When he decided he could no longer drive I bought the last RS2000 from him at family rates and ran it for several years. It was 5 years old at the time and had done 15K miles. It's still going according to my Internet stalking.

Mk3 Cortina in orange with a vinyl roof, Escort Mk 2 1.1 Popular, Fiat Strada in salmon pink metallic.

I had an elderly relative who had a Bentley despite the fact that he couldn't drive.

My grandad on my dads side had a Morris Minor. My Canadian Grandad had a massive American station wagon with wooden sides. It was awful.
