I've done demostrations breaking a rear screen on an Eos with nothing more than a small piece of gravel.
It doesn't need to be thrown very hard, so I imagine a 4 year old getting "lucky" could break one.
It all depends how sharp the points on the stone are, a rounded piece of pebble could well bounce off, but a small peice of flint would almost certainly break it first time.

its a long story i cant arsed to retell but my son has been accused of such a crime.
PersonallyI cant see how a four year can completely smash a rear screen on a 51 plate golf but I stand to be corrected. (even though several teens close by were seen throwing "stuff" into the car park several mins after and that i was standing in front of the car with my son in hand as the screen actually smashed. Although he was seen trowing stones at the car 4 mins previously.
Im sure i dont need to explain my extreme disapointment nor the fact he was of course very much repremanded for throwing stones at cars regardless.

Back at Sixth Form, we were all messing about in the student carpark in the evening sun having returned from a Geography day trip, someone chucked a bit of gravel in the air to catch it, but instead it caught the rear windscreen of one of the lads' cars. Whole thing shattered and fell away instantly, he had a 16mi blast down the A3 in a very windy 106 that evening...
