I'm thinking about a MK1 RS as a weekend car, I had a brief drive of one a few years back and thought it was a decent car. I also remember the press at the time giving it a bit of a slating as reguards torque under steer.

I'd like to know of anyone's opinions about owning one and what they're like to live with. I also know that there are better small hatches out there and that many prefer the Mk2 2.5.

I'm a big fan of the looks on the outside although I'm not sure about the Blue throughout the interior.

I almost don't care what they're like to drive. They look fantastic. To my eyes, one of the best looking cars ever produced.

Good ones are beginning to become rare. Scruffy ones are down to £7K, good ones can still go for over £10K. I still plan on owning one, one day.

I've had one briefly and loved it apart from the interior.

Great car, lovely sound. You do attract the wrong type of attention though I must admit.

Don't regret buying it and was sad to see her go.

Absolutely stunning cars to drive.
Externally they are visually perfect, less so with the seats inside, but it really didn't bother me.

I loved my RS... I will have another at some point. Try to get one with a tasty brake upgrade... It perfect the car smile

Go for it BN. The seats might not look up to much but they are damn comfortable. Take one out for a test run and see if it still lights your fire. I would have thought that if you get get a decent one and look after it, the residuals should be pretty good too.

My old man raved about it when I had mine and said it was one of the most fun sporty cars he had ever driven and felt confident he could drive it 'flat out'!!. He used to race many things including single seaters in his 'youth' so knows how to handle a car wink

Drive a few, as apparently some are good and some are less good.

As safe a place to park £8-12k as an Elise or Catherham. Get a standard one or one with easily reversed mods.

Superb car that still looks great 10 years on in my opinion. I have owned my standard one for getting on 3 years and it's been a lot of fun, an absolute hoot on the right (smooth) backroad!

Sadly going up for sale this weekend due to an impending house purchase...(cough)

Cosmetically I would say that the mk1 is streets ahead of the mk2.

I drove one as a rally car on one of the 'experience' days.

Was just as nice and easy to drive as any 'normal' Focus except that it had loads more power and was a hoot to drive.

Thank you for the replies and pictures of peoples cars so far everyone. I'm about to start reading through the links that people have posted.

I'm after a standard car as thats the way I want to keep it. There is a car advertised on here for sale because the owner is buying his first house, does that belong to the poster on this thread?

I have looked at M3's but they don't give me that feeling I have in my stomach for the MK1 RS.

I hope that makes sense.

No not mine, it isn't in the classifieds yet, although I am also selling to buy my first house! I'll stick it up in the next few days. It's a standard car, 67k, had a very expensive service recently with a load of common issues sorted.
