The car you've highlighted is a 51 Lapis blue with tan leather. Doesn't tick much of your wish list?

It's an interesting colour scheme, but I actually quite like it.

As you're probably aware, that's a GT2 front bumper so I'd want to make sure the bumper wasn't changed as part of a repair. Also, mix and matching font and rear aero agenda isn't generally recommended, but if you're planning on sticking to UK speed limits, I doubt it'll ever be an issue.

Also, make sure it is a Tiptronic you want - very different to the manual and I know of a few people who have regretted buying a tiptronic. Make sure you have tried both before committing.

Sports seats with crests is a nice option though, but the wheels should have 'turbo' script rather than crests. 'Suede headlining' is actually 'alcantara headlining', and is standard on that car (as is the bose & sunroof). Rear wiper is a handy option (but a car without one wouldn't be a dealbreaker. Those that don't have them say they're not bothered, whereas I use mine all the time). So in reality, there doesn't appear to be many options ticked.

Probably priced about right.

Worth checking when the alignment was done - I don't think that is part of the inspection and I am currently facing a substantial bill to have mine done (as a lot of the nuts have rusted/corroded; this is quite common apparently)

That is a 2002 model year car though (has glove box). I don't know the car but notice it seems to have a GT2 front splitter, which is a more resilient type (flexible), in fact I'm surprised more Turbo owners don't fit them when they damage the original ones. It's also been colour coded, which alters the look slightly.

When I was shopping for a 996 Turbo I positively went looking for a Lapis Blue with tan one as I thought it always looked fairly classy in any pics I saw and thought all the naysayers were wrong. Saw one in flesh and changed my mind.

Surely you start with the cars which match your wishlist (or close to it) to see it they're any good. How about these?

Thought your car was under the Hartech scheme - why the big bills?

Is there a company doing 'stainless steel nut' kits for the 996 for the places e.g. exhaust, suspension etc?

Big bill on a 996 turbo could make the more expensive car look cheap. I'd look at all 3 and then negotiate. If you don't ask.....

Sure is, but when I bought the car and Hartech inspected it to add it to the scheme, it was noted that the alignment was slightly out (but not too bad) so we agreed to leave it until it was back on OEM wheels and proper tyres.

Now that it is, I want it perfect (but obviously wouldn't be fair to expect that to be covered as it was needed before it joined the scheme).

Then definitely don't pursue it; the advice (rightfully) given is that condition is more important than spec, but that just means you should wait until you find one that matches the condition AND spec you want (there are plenty of cars out there). The colour you want is very imporatant as well.

Not sure if serious.

Completely serious. Which bit don't you agree with?

So you travel down from Scotland for servicing etc?

Sorry, that's off topic, but I've been weighing up pros and cons of buying outside of Porsche warranty and hence Hartech warranty is an option, but I was thinking that Bolton was a bit far away from the Midlands! Obviously nothing compared to Scotland...

Yes. It's a bit of a nuisance (it's 300 miles away) but it's worth it to my mind. (Hartech have been excellent to deal with).

I only have to do the trip once a year, and I have breakdown cover that will deliver the car there in the event of a breakdown, so it's no big deal.

The crested wheel centres will have been a cost option, as chosen by the original buyer, or added later but either way make diddly squat difference on a 10 year old car. Rear wiper is standard on all 996s except GT cars.
