My 4.3 has been along side some BV4.3's and pulled away from them to their surprise(and mine) ..
There are also rumours some of the 4.3's maybe BV anyway
Before getting carried away, I'd find out how your car is performing... get diagnosed anything not working properly ie worn cams etc.... then have a think.

Were not all 430s not BV`s then? (Sits back awaits, flaming mode on)
Not sure of this, but I've heard that there are some out there "disguised" as standard 430's..... I think they have BV heads, but something else is standard so they don't get the full benifit (my mind is blank, and I'm not knowledgable enough to even hazzard a guess at what it was)
Roughly:
Valves & head work @ £500
Cam, followers & vernier @ £500
Porting inlet manifold & trumpet base ala 500 in some cases, but there are so many variations... I'd still get the 45mm base & shortened trumpets or blended base.
Mechancal cam is a good option BTW
Gaskets etc..
Power used to do it for @£1500 IIRC, I'm sure Rob could also put you together a package if you don't want to do all/any of the work yourself. Just remember with the 430 you will have ringed heads so you need to decide whether to have the rings skimmed off, copper gaskets or if normal composites will suit you.

I upgraded mine to BV spec. I can't remember who I got to do the work now (V8D maybe? - one of the big RV8 engine builders) and it cost about £1000 to get both heads rebuilt with big valves, new guides, ported, polished and flowed. They re-used the rocker gear but set it all up for the right preloading.
I retained the original cam (I think the factory BVs had a different cam) and Ian at Sportmotive built it all back up for me
.
With Dulford's manifolds and Y piece it made 282bhp on the rollers at the Growl - more than some of the 5.0 litres.
There are rumours about some standard 430s having BV heads but I don't know of any. If you like your car, get it done. Better the devil you know.

me too, get it dyno,d then plan also bear in mind drive ability, most 4.3 big valves were lumpy mine has made between 275-- 283 with a smooth power curve and fuel line as good as a std 500

Where in the southwest is the best place for getting it dyno'd
Thanks
I've used Janspeed in Salisbury because they are close, I've no idea whether they are the best place to go though. Try contacting Jon_BMW on PH, he works there (well he did when I got my car dyno'd). Janspeed were fine for just getting power/torque readings, I didn't ask them to attempt any adjustments/tuning though. Thanks

Mine was 278.6 at the Growl amd 313 torque. It certainly isn't lumpy and is very smooth indeed.

Hi
Well finally got my dyno'd yesterday at neil garners open day, I was quite surprised when it came in at 289.7bhp to say the least especially for a 430
Which way would you got now to gain let's say 10ish bhp?
Work done to date
Carbon trumpets
Thermal spacer
Usual induction mods/hoses and k&n
Precats out
Leads/cap/ rotor arm/ign amp
Fueling seems to be spot on !
Any advise/costs would be welcome
Pete

If you are looking at keeping the car looking original have a look at what Mark Adam offers. You can keep the 14CUX and AFM for fuelling running an upgraded program with the Tornado chip and add on an Omex 200 ignition processor to control the spark while retaining the distributor.
Hi Matt, that sounds interesting to me, do you have any links to this stuff so as i can investigate? All the best, PeteGassing Station | Griffith | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

282bhp ..... non big valve 4.3 here.
