Hi,

Having just built my first Tamiya model for 25yrs (1/14th Scania 470) I have got the rolling chassis all together and the radio gear installed. Steering and gear change work sweetly on ch4 and 1 respectively but no matter what I do every time I plug the motor in it screams its knackers off until I switch it off or hold channel 3 full on. It will only go in forward and there is no control over the speed. If plugged in its on full whack.

Acoms radio instructions very basic and the kit instructions don't really cover the RC side of it.

Anyone any ideas coz my eldest and I are raring to go!!

Cheers

Can you reverse channel 3 somehow? Sounds like it's reversed and probably not trimmed correctly.

Tried reversing as in swapping motor wires over but no joy and it doesn't matter where the trim is. It should be forward for forward neutral for neutral and reverse for reverse. It just screams its little one directional head off. I'm wondering if the speed control is US?

I meant reverse channel 3 on the transmitter - but I have no experience of your model, so it mught be totally wrong!

dr gn has suggested what I would try first. It sounds like channel 3 is currently set to have the throttle wide open. You can test if the channel needs reversing by putting the channel 3 control in to what should be full throttle. If the motor then doesn't go mental, it would appear that is the problem.

I've tried the motor in all channels with same result

Thanks for the advice but looks like speed control is knackered eh?

Have you tried setting the speed controller? From new the endpoints are likely to be way out and need setting.

Yeah, but have you tried *reversing* channel 3 yet? Or as suggested previously, switching on with the throttle held full on, and then gradually moving it to off and seeing if the motor comes on and increases speed? If so, then it's the channel that's reversed?

How do I set the speed controller?

And yes I've reversed ch3 and the full throttle trick. Reversing the ch just gives me the same problem but I have to push the stick full forwa to stop the motor.

Thanks everyone,

Finally got it sorted, needed to rest the speedo with everything in neutral. Hadn't seen the tiny reset button and all is now sorted.

Just fine tuning the 3 speed gearbox shift and which channels to use for everything and we're away!

Might even let the 12yr old have a drive! hehe

Nope. For once in my life I've been properly reading all the instructions! Speed control just came in a clear blister pack as part of the 4ch starter pack.

Reading instructions is for girls anyway!

Cabs been in my 1/14th spray booth tonight and is coming on a treat. The chassis has been badly driven by me for a while tonight and I'm getting into it again!
