Why are motoring mags lazy these days?
Discussion
Ive noticed a real difference between bike mags and car mags. Each year the jap makes update their superbikes and the likes of PB magazine go out and test each one and give us proper stats, i.e 0-60, 0-100, standing qtr etc plus roll on acceleration, proper measured BHP figures and so on. The specialist car mags however generally dont bother these days. EVO used to give us the EPR back in the good old days, but for example, I have been waiting for some up to date figures on the 2011 and 2012 MY versions of my favourite all round super car the Nissan GT-R and have got nothing. EVO still quote the rather sluggish lap time they got at Bedford in 2009. Any one else feel the car mags need to try harder, or am I the only sad anorak on the block??!!
Autocar still do the test stats - not often any mag will retest an updated spec though as they state they could have tested a completely new car instead. Any anomalies tend to get perpetuated for this reason. Mind you, I think Autocar did test every body shell variant of the E36 328i though almost which does buck the normal trend
I don't care about the stats beyond the very basics, I care about what it's like to drive.
I get Car Magazine every month and it's superb at giving a real in depth feel for the car and what it actually drives like.
No laziness there, just in depth interesting well written prose and great photographs.

I'd say the above is why EVO don't dwell overlong on the stats as well - more about the drive than the actual raw straight line speed - see ECOTYI get Car Magazine every month and it's superb at giving a real in depth feel for the car and what it actually drives like.
