What areas to avoid in Maidenhead?

Hi,
After our short two day visit to windsor,Twyford and Maidenhead last week, we have selected maidenhead to relocate as twyford doesn't have much to offer and you need a car to live in Twyford. It is a very good place to live but i found it very dead quiet, not many shops near by.
I like to know about the areas we should avoid in maidenhead.
Is Fernley Court (on Harrow lane) and St Mark road any good?

Both of these are OK areas.
There aren't many ghettos in Maidenhead. One of the few places that has a reputation is the "bomber estate". so called because all of the streets are named after WWII planes. I used to live in the Cranbrook Drive estate nearby which is a wee bit boring but very safe/clean/well looked after.
Some areas (eg North Town) tend to attract specific ethnicities (he said diplomatically), but you will suss that out for yourself if you go and have a look.
Generally a good place to live. Town centre is pretty rubbish for "special" shopping but Windsor and Marlow are 10 minutes away.

).Very surprised about your comments on Twyford. I was born and brought up in Maidenhead and have now lived for 10yrs in Twyford. If you have no car Twyford is 100% better as you have a mainline station an easy walk away (Not in the middle of town no where near most of the houses in Maidenhead). Plus you are always close to Waitrose, and soon to be Tescos. Maidenhead is a dive of a town centre and I would not shop there as it's now pretty much just full of 99p shops. Reading is the place to do your shopping or alternatively you can jump on a train and be in London in less than an hour for shopping.
I will echo the statements about the Bomber estates, although they are improving. It really depends on your budget, i mean if you want to be in Maidenhead, then you cannot go wrong with the Altwood area, slightly cheaper housing behind the posh ones on Altwood road, try Bloomfield drive etc, then you are also only a few mins walk from both Primary and secondary schools if you need. Also worth looking at Furze Platt and Pickneys Green areas. But as is mentioned Avoid Northtown or anywhere too close to the town centre.
