hi all

i'm currently looking to buy a chim from a main tvr dealer who will be servicing
the car and doing minor jobs on her before sale

one of the advisories from a previous service was a cracked top diff bush !
the garage has said that this dosen't need replacing as thay all do this ?

can you advise me on whether they are correct on this ?
my feelings are if its cracked its going to need replacing in the near future

your advice please
cheers keith

They said that because it is a shid job to do and would rather not if they can get away with it.

(getting close then Keith wink)

yes This. Get them to change it and insist they put a 2-piece poly one in as a replacement. Simple and easy for you to change in the future,[if you ever have to that is!]

Y'all seem to be jumping on the righteous buyer bandwagon?

All you can see of the top diff bush in-situ is the very thin lip of the rubber, nearly all will show some signs of the rubber cracking IMHO. If the chassis mount has a crack that's a completely different matter. I'd tend to agree with the dealer if it is the former & put it down to an MOT tester wanting to sound clever or servicer touting for business... It is easy enough to test if the bush is still 'solid' anyway - just give the diff a good levering with a pry bar.

Why assume the bloke who made a note of it hasn't already done that?

If I relied on what I assume, then I would expect 99% of posts in these forums wouldn't be neccessary rofl

It's more ttty than a very ttty thing to change the top diff bush. Probably the worst job on the cars IMO.

My diff is out the cerb just now and as Spend says if it is the only outer of the bush that cracked ,no big deal , i put a bar though mine and gave it a good wriggle it is still healthy , but i have the diff out and don't want to ever do this job again so i am fitting a polly one as it is out for other work any way.

If it's not moving don't worrie about it. the outer edge means very little in it performance.

A ford void bush tool and a lot of socket extensions is the usual way.

thanks guys for your help !

had a look at the car today and the diff bush only has very minor cracking to the outer rubber
so that should be good for many years yet
