Last Friday, I was caught doing 61mph in a temporary 40mph limit through some roadworks on a dual carriageway near my house.

Annoying, but hands up officer. Fixed penalty and 3 points. He thanked me for being co-operative and that I'd done the right thing as soon as I'd been caught.

I have already points on my licence – 3 points from each of the following: March 2000, March 2001 and September 2001.

Here’s my little dilemma - I haven’t sent my licence in to have the 3 from March 2000 to be removed. Is it a problem when I take my licence to the station that there are technically 9 points “on my licence”?

Just a little concern, that’s all. I know I won't be done under the totting up rules, but should I have sent my licence back to DVLA?

Simple answer No, points will not be counted after the 3rd anniversary of each. Removing them by applying for a new licence makes no difference

Sweat no more mon ami.... tiz true what has been said above. You went back to 6 points in March 2003.

Had you been up for 12 points them BiB would not have issued you with a Fixed Penalty Ticket as he would have had to take you to Court for consideration of Disqualification under 12 points totting rule.
