i need to wire up a trailer from scratch. apparently local laws say i don't require lights or plates on it, but with the local driving standards there is no way i'm towing at night without them!

can anyone point me towards an idiot guide for wiring up an unbraked trailer? i would also like side lights, can these simply be wired into the rears?

for what they cost would it be worth just buying something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trailer-Light-Board-3ft-...

cost of shipping would be an issue though!

i can buy side lights for a quid each, and the main light packs for about a fiver each. trust me, lit up like an xmas tree is the only sane towing method here.

Google will provide you with the wiring pin-out for a standard trailer socket.

From there, it's hardly rocket science - if you can't work it out for yourself, you probably ought not to be trying to rewire a trailer yourself.

I did the G/F's horse trailer this summer - it took me a couple of evenings pottering about; it's not complicated.

Get yourself a soldering iron and a test lamp, other than that, Google 'auto electircal supplies' for all the wiring and components you'll need.
