i know how money obsessed the porsche forum is so i thought i'd pass on some details of a couple coming up.

now, caveat emptor, ok!

both cars have only one key present, no service history or v5, but, these things can be gotten hold of. as always you pays your money....

the above suggests repossessions but nothing is written in stone-the cars certainly don't appear to be unloved snotters.

http://www.manheimremarketing.co.uk/connect/vehicl...

fist off a 2002 996 turbo, silver, metropole, aerokit, manual
53k miles
OO02TBO
WP0ZZZ99ZZ5682324

fairly individual private plate so someone may know it?

http://www.manheimremarketing.co.uk/connect/vehicl...

second a very nice 2006 997 c4s, silver, black leather, aerokit, manual
43k miles
BX06DYU
WP0ZZZ99Z6S734229

i've posted the details as you can do your own searches from here on, i'm not suggesting these are great buys for everyone, i haven't viewed them & the missing history's may be too much for some.

but at least the details are out there & if they turn up in the classifieds in a few weeks with full service histories you know to ask some questions

the 997 c4s looks nice - where do you start with working out the value of a car with no papers?

Cars with over revs in region 4 or higher get traded out the network at auctions.
Depends what you are after i guess.

Indeed, but I'd still guess at these being finance repo's with the lack of service histories. You may be a little shocked at how little these will bring at auction though smile

I would guess the turbo would get around 18k...probably bought by a dealer who will do the legwork to chase the history, get the log book, then resale after some prep at around 26 minimum

Theres loads of Porsches go through auctions and it isnt because they have had an over rev! Most lease cars go through when the lease deal ends, seen loads of ex lombard lease cars and yes be prepared to be shocked what they go for!If you are the type who worries about service history perhaps you should stick to a dealer!

I think you will be suprised at how exoensive they are, taking into account the huge risk in buying there

difficult without seeing it obviously but if it goes past £15K it won't be by a dealer

2 went through Bedford auctions last week a 996 tt 2003 plate 58000 miles no.paper work it made £12750.00

2004 996 c4s no paper work 35760 miles it made £ 14000.00

Both were snatch backs

This wednesday or Thursday there is a 2010 Carrera going through Black in colour and looks fantastic.

It will be interesting to know what they do fetch, from my experience auctions are very unpredictable, in that sometimes cars can fetch as much as what they could be bought private for with far few risks. Certainly BCA auctions have not been cheap enough for the risk taken for me. You only need 2 private buyers to be bidding thinking they are getting a bargain, or 1 private buyer and a sharp auctioneer!!

I have never looked at one though tbh with no history, I imagine that will be the killer with these cars!!

didn't see those results but £13k would have been my limit as well, not a bad buy if it checks out & if you manage to get the paperwork (if they've had it snatched back a monkey should do it wink ) you can be sitting on a half decent profit for your troubles.

now, where's me sheepskin coat.....

Take a calculator if you go auction hunting!

When I was looking at a 355 a while back the owner had already committed it to an auction house for sale, even though he was happy with my offer. Auction house told him there were penalties to pull it. I did some figures and realised that even if it sold at several grand below reserve it'd mean that (post-fees) the final cost would have been well in excess of the other perfect, non-auction cars out there. That's the spread, for you, I guess. On top of that the owner would have been getting considerably less than he would have from me. I walked, sadly, as I was most itchy for a yellow Ferrari!

I've no idea what sort of proportion of auction cars have stories, but given the cut some houses take I'd be very careful in terms of final price paid as well as the quality of the car.

Lol, the 996TT has had the whole of one side repaired along with a poor bumper repair and "several" other repairs. Has a sill ext missing, rust/corrosion on roof along with numerous stone chips.

If that's what it looks on the outside, I would hate to imagine what it is like mechanically! redface

Guys

Buying cars at auction is very exciting but not without risk! I have bought and sold many over the years and in the main done well. But only on bread and butter stuff.

Buying a 996 Turbo with no papers is a big boys game and if you are doing it just to get into one 'cheap', I would advise against it.

With a little common sense, you could bag a bargain, but you could easily be left with a right stter.
