First place to start to find your answer is to look them up on the FSA Register. What you want to do is click on each 'individual' and then click on their employment history.

Warning signs to look out for are staff who have previously worked at high pressure selling penny share or advisory firms. You can click on the company links and then visit their websites to get a feel for what their previous firms did.

Then, look at the length of time the advisors have been regulated. It takes a very long time to become a competant stock picker.

You might want to ask what actual qualifications the directors have beyond the basic FSA Reggie Rep papers. How many people in the firm have genuine investment qualifications?

Finally, you could Google the firm to see what ex customers' experiences have been.

None of this should take much longer than 10 mins on Google and should give you a very clear answer to your question.
