So, I'm a litte confused but that may be due to the normal abnormality of a TVR. Any help or experiences that you would like to share is greatly appreciated.

I finally got the doors off today and the chimp is off to paint next week but...upon removing the doors I noticed the following differences:
Passenger door upper had 4 washers on hinge
Passenger door lower had 2
Drivers door upper had 1
Drivers door lower had 0

Now I know what the spacers are for and that its obvious that there will be uneven numbers but 4 and 0? Thats a BIG difference...is it not???

Also...
...the drivers door window was held to the motor assembly with a fat 10mm spacer between glass and assembly...whereas the Passenger sidehad no such washers. Is that normal or is something missing? It looks like the window brush seal thing had been replaced at some point and I'm a little worried that the previous owner may have incorrectly refitted the glass.

A Stupid question really but is there any way to check what is correct? I mean, the glass goes up and down okay at the normal TVR speed (i.e. not really wanting to be rushed) and the roof/door leaks the normal amount of water in the rain so...?...

"confusion".

If it's working consider yourself lucky biggrin There's no such thing as normal on a Tiv, they're hand built to varying tolerances!

TVRs, along with most small volume handbuilt cars, are very asymetric and so it's normal for there to be different adjustments on opposite sides of the car. If you look at similar models the next time you see several parked up it's quite likely you'll see different door fits, gaps etc to name just a couple.

Yeah, I thought that would probably the replies I would hear as I am aware that a bespoke vehicle involves a lot of 'hand fettling' as it were. Still, having stripped the entire car ready for the paint shop (complete colour change), this has to date been the only unsymmetrical thing I've come across which caused the confusion more than had everything been awry. No harm in checking though I thought. Cheers.

Have you found any graffiti on inside the panels ? It was common a place for the staff to write various comments

I haven't noticed, or even looked for, anything like this on mine. However, I don't think it's anything to concern yourself about, just a by-product of the 'manufacturing' process. Most hand-made things fail to meet the tolerances of robot produced ones.

If it was a Lexus you were asking about, I'd be a bit more concened smile

Apart from centre markings on the roof, year and model writing there hasn't been any fun under the trim. I guess my Chimp was built on a national no-fun day. Still, what an experience. I think you only really ever get a personal relationship with this sort of car. I have no idea how my Audi works, nor do I care but the Chimaera is all fun.

Good times and roll on summer!

I have a similar asymmetry question regarding the boot lid. The lid is level with the top of the wing on the near side but a fair bit higher on the off side. Is there any way of adjusting the boot lid so that it matches the wings ?
Apart from it looking poor, there is also a tendancy for the off side to leak into the boot in heavy rain storms liek we've been having recently. So it probably isn't sitting down on the rubber properly.

I have the same problem on my MK1 (early hinges) ,tried everything and got it down to the hydrolic stay pushing one side up and over time twisting the boot ..Iv`e removed the stay and it seems to be leveling up after time ,not replaced the old stiff one to date.

It is a kit car you know laugh
