Hi all,

would you please be able to give me your thoughts on what may soon be my first porsche:

http://www.bespokeperformance.co.uk/used-cars/stoc...

Other than your general thoughts and advice I did have a couple of questions.

Price about right for 27k miles?
Air con is not listed. Does that mean it is standard or does this car not have it?
After searching, I understand that I can retrofit a reasonable sat nav into the dash. Any ideas on the cost of this?

Many thanks again in advance

Paul

Hi, can not see price. It does have air conditioning from pictures. The correct spelling is CARRERA.

Looks very nice, but no heated/sports seats would put me off, also seems quite expensive your well into 997 money at £25k

Seats look a little worn for 27k - remember buy on CONDITION not mileage. I would personally be patient and wait for a good car to come up at one of the more well known specialists; 911V, RSJ, Paragon etc.

ETA: All C4S' have aircon as standard. FPSH which is always nice to see, make sure it has 9 stamps. I've heard of dealers trying to talk the 'two year/20k service intervals' into buyers - this is only for 2004> cars. If you do decide to buy invest in a PPI (as 6C4GTS has said) such as a Peter Morgan inspection. This will pick up any faults with the car and you can get the garage to rectify these or walk away. Good luck.

It has aircon - all C4S have aircon.
On the downside it does not have litronics or a sunroof.
Check it has PSE - look for the button on the right side of the stereo - and not just the figure of 8 tail pipe which some dealers think is sporty.
Disagree with seats being worn - they look fine.
It patently has comfort seats and not sports - actually not a bad seat at all, better with heating and crest but hey!
Condition looks fine - but mileage is very low.......when I was looking for mine there were a couple of cars with mileage this low......good you think......until you discover that they have only been serviced three times in a decade!!!! Ask for service history dates and mileages, low mileage cars still need an annual inspection and should have a supporting stamp.
If all of the above checks out invest in a PPI and good luck.

If this car was at RSJ it would probably be a couple of grand more - buy the car not the dealer.

Any questions just post up.

thanks for your help so far

so the great sounding louder exhaust (PSE) is an option only and unless it states it has this the car won't sound nearly as impressive??

It's all subjective...99% of people on here will tell you PSE is a must. However, you may actually find the normal sound is plenty loud enough and you don't want a very loud exhaust system.

Best to hear both and decide.

This is slightly off topic but I have seen a 996 coupe without aircon, apparently for the South Africa market (sounds odd I know), so there must be others. However, it is easy to tell - ac cars have the digital climate control panel.

It's not that that the PSE on the 996 C4S is loud - it makes THE most beautiful sound. I want one just for that (and having it will make it a lot easier to shift when you come to move it on). Remember you can turn it to "quiet" when you want/need.

£25k is top money for an 02 C4S though. Personally I would look for a slightly higher mileage car with all the good options for around the £20k mark - there are plenty around. Better proposition IMO.

For that money (although assume there will be about £1k wriggle room for cash), it will need to be very, very good and have the options I want. If not, as said above, take your time and keep looking (easier said than done as we all know!). Good luck!

I think that was what UKTM did with £25K and could not find a car - like turbos, the good cars are getting harder to find and it may be worth paying the premium.

On this car if its been serviced each year it may be one of the best out there!

Possibly, but on the face of it there are quite a few out there. Doesn't look like PSE, but how about this one - newer, just serviced, OPC history, xenons, sunroof, heated seats etc.

Yes, I was struggling to find a really mint low mileage C4S for £25K back in September/October. I viewed a lot of cars and many were either disappointing in the flesh or above budget. If I was buying from a dealer I would only buy from a reputable Porsche Indy specialist as they know exactly what to look for regarding these cars. Also not sure I'd want to pay a premium for ultra-low mileage, especially as engine problems are more likely to arise from lack of use. 50K miles would still be only 5K miles per annum average on a 2002 car. So at 27K miles in 10 years, that's either an awful lot of city crawling or a lot of standing around - neither are particularly good scenarios really. But on the other hand if it's been serviced annually despite the low mileage and stored properly when out of use, then it could be a time warp car.

IMO the M96 has a spine tinglingly good mechanical howl that is lost with the SE flaps open. Okay, the world doesn't hear it but who gives a f...?

£25K for an '02 C4S is way overpriced IMO.

http://pistonheads.com/sales/3455899.htm looks better value and there are loads of others about (some of which won't be good when inspected obviously).

As for PSE, having owned with and without, I would definitely NOT buy one without PSE.

Looks a possible..........but no PSE......and if there are xenons they are not factory as there is no wash system.
