Rant! what would you have done?

Yesterday approaching a main road from a side road.
Side road ends on an hill, so hill start to enter main road.
Car already at junction wanting to turn right as I approach, I see him roll back a good foot, then pull up to the line, try to pull away then roll back again (happens a couple of times).
Nothing behind me at this point so I stop a good cars length behind the guy as I don't want him rolling back into my bumper.
Im wanting to turn right, but as I stopped so far from the junction I've blocked any one wanting to turn left from approaching the junction (road only widens close to the junction), however no one behind me at this point so not a problem.
The guy who is having difficulty (not sure why, no handbrake and crap clutch???) keeps rolling back, so I'm sat there a good 20 secs or more.
At this point a guy comes round the corner behind me wanting to turn left, He obviously can't get past me, but as I see him I start to pull my car forward slightly so he can get past (prob took 5-10 secs max), at which point the guy in front finally manages to join the main road and I pull up to the junction
the guy is now along side my car (me going right, him left) and giving me massive abuse for been a t++t who cant drive etc etc. was tempted to get out and explain the situation to him but he was bigger than me lol!
I can understand this to a point (apart from the massively overblown response to a small problem), it winds me up when people block lanes etc, but given the situation I'm still not sure I would do any thing different.
Just wondering what other people would have done in the same situation?

my prefered option, ignor with a whatever type attitude, you have the front on your car and the gobs

I meant would you have blocked the road in a similar fashion, bearing in mind the person in front, and no one behind you at the time?
If I had time, wind the window down and tell him to STFU and explain with much chagrin why I'd been hanging back.
If it looked like he was going to drive off before I had chance, childishly stick the finger up and mouth a naughty sweary word like ploppy brains.
Getting out of the car (especially first) is probably unwise, even if you are as PB as me - looks bad if it then escalates, never mind the small chance of being sliced/shot/headshrunk.
