3.0 TDI Inlet Manifold Flap - TAME TECHNICIAN
Discussion
I've only replaced them, I have heard people on here say they can be repaired but its ot an audi aproved method.
The main thing is, apart from the light being on the dash, can you tell there is anything wrong. Generally there is no loss in performance or MPG and as such, if money is an issue you can run the vehicle with a faulty flap for some time.
Also if one side is gone, is likey the other one will at some stage too.

Thank you gentlemen. Money is always an issue for me specially in the last year...
I heard a rumor they could be repaired so hence the question but I'm in Portugal so I need to figure out how to do it myself. Any tips?
If you prefer to email me pls do on francisco.santos@jrsantos.pt
Your help is highly appreciated.

Hey have had the same fault on our 97 Q7, bank two manifold at 60,000 miles. I've purchased and fitted the repair kit (£20 each side) on Ebay two weeks ago. This is the little aluminium rod and ball joints top and bottom that attached the VDO motor to the shaft that opens the flaps in the manifold. The near side one takes 10 minutes, the other side is much harder as the motor is up the other way so the clip you have take off is at the bottom.
We took of the turbo air inlet pipe, and a few other bits so we could actually loosen off the offside inlet manifold to lift it up to give better access to the clip.
Two weeks later and the management light is still off...... Is it permanent fix? Well I've heard that one of the issues is the manifolds coking up up hence the flaps don't re sent fully. If that's the issue then the light will come back on but for sure the little plastic ball joints where pretty worn after 60,000 miles, especially the bottom one where it slips onto the shaft that has the flaps on it. Pretty poor design as the male part is plastic with a small slot that fits on the end of the shaft. With the strength of the springs that close them not surprising they wear. Hope it has fixed it!
The parts are genuine Audi/VW it's just the dealers don't stock them and choose to replace the manifolds! Massive saving if you have the time and reasonable ability to change them over. Took us a good 5 hrs in total I reckon although 2nd time round I reckon you would 1/2 that.
Hope that helps all Russ

Hi,
Since budget is always tight on my 3ltr 08 q7 Engine light was on for few months on ling jourbeys after a while it disapears and then comes back on on diagnostics it showed intake manifold flap sensor implaussible bank 1.
Bank 1 on my q7 and identified by mobile mechanic was on the drivers side rhd. Upon inspection plastic rod attached to actuator motor had hair line crack also this motor was going up and down occasionaly . To save time mobile mechanic suggested change the motor and rod. Audi actuator motor was around £350 way out of budget. So i took part number which is 1st on top of the actuator motor and bo7ght it from ebay for 99. For the rod purchased the repair kit rod for intake .manifold for 15 from ebay. Only 3 screws to be taken out and fix is less than 10 minutes. I will attach all the pictures. Any questions feel free to ask i was expecting bills of 6-700 but got done for £180 60 was labour could have been avoided but since i committed so i left for him to do. Feel free to contact for images as uploading image is quite slow.
