Do you need European recovery to drive in Germany?
Discussion
I don't think it's illegal to break down on the Autobahn, as no-one plans a breakdown, but it is illegal to run out of fuel.
Done a couple of trips to Germany, you don't need recovery, just the usual 'driving on the continent' items like warning triangle/hi-viz/vehicle and insurance documents etc.

I dont really need/want a full years cover as I'll only be going for a few days and its a bit of a waste paying for a full year (and more expensive). Anywhere do a "short trip" thing? I looked on the AA's website but it was quite expensive for just 3 days, over £75!
Try RAC, my cover was around £45 for 4-5 days IIRC.you don't NEED it legally, but it's worth having
if you break down/crash on the ring, you'll be recovered off the track by an ADAC agent anyway, and he'll charge you a few hundred quid
same applies for motorways, some road works there's automatic recovery, but again, they will charge if you aren't a member

As said, ADAC is only €78,50 PER YEAR !!!if you break down/crash on the ring, you'll be recovered off the track by an ADAC agent anyway, and he'll charge you a few hundred quid

Just before I went to europe for a week on the bike, I rang up RAC about european breakdown, and it was £58 for the week. They'd take the bike home and everything if it wasn't fixable but I was pondering that I doubt anything would actually happen so took the chance...
3 days later whilst on a german autobahn the thing caught fire and burnt to a skeleton losing everything (clothers, camping gear etc etc), I had to pay £300 for the bike to be recovered. Luckily I was with someone and I could go on the back, if not, I would of had to pay £250 for a flight home aswell.
Definitely get it, it may seem like a bit of money for an IF chance, but these things do happen.
