Hi, I was wondering if any views on correlation between Dumb bells and Kettlebell. For example I do my reps with a 15KG dumb-bell (arms, shoulders etc) and dead lifts with a 45-50 Kg Barbell. I'm just looking to maintain strength as part of general fitness.
Anyway the temptation is to go up in weight for a Kettle bell for example to 20kg's but looking at the programs and movements, this could be too ambitious.
Any advice is appreciated, thanks

For me it depends upon what you want to do with the kettlebell, the same as normal weights I guess.

I use a range of weights, normally 12-16kg for the high rep double arm and single arm swings, military presses etc but I have used two 24kg bells for some of the squats. Can you find somewhere to try it out first?

Hi mate, IMO You should get a 16kg bell if you intend to do c&p and snatches etc.

Just to give reference, I bought a 20kg a couple of years ago based on seated db press with 28kg db's, barbell clean and press 65kg all for reps.

Even though I was fairly strong, 20kg for a bell was heavy.

About a year ago I managed 100 reps of single arm swings with a 12Kg bell. That was alternating each arm 10 reps, so 50 reps per arm without a break. Not easy and a very good cardio workout more than anything. Iffy knees and lower back have temporarily put a halt to those excesses. smile

There are prob. cheaper places than just Amazon. I'd start with somewhere like www.wolverson-fitness.com, who can give you good advice and maybe do you a deal on a 16 and a 20...

I've seen Pavel's stuff and its really entertaining as well as very useful for training with the kettlebell.

'In Russia we think only women do cardio!' hehe

The actual number on the weight is irrellevant, you just need to pick the bell that you can using good form manage a set of 10 or 12 reps, so that the last couple are difficult but not so much that you're risking pulling something. If that makes sense ?

I also bought a hollow KB so my weight could go up.
