help with mk4 golf gt tdi

Hi i have a mk4 golf gt tdi 150 and have only had for about 2 months, last night i was in the drive through and a medium pitched noised not to high and not to low was being made from under the bonnet, it carried on getting slightly higher pitched for around 20 seconds then stopped, i have no idea what this could be, has any 1 got any suggestions.

Was this with the ignition switched off?

My O/H's V5 has an electric water pump which works when you switch the ignition on and keeps going after switching off, even if the engine is not started.

nope the ignition was switched on

Did it sound like air escaping, ie. a boost leak, or was it more mechanical?

more like a fog horn sound just not as low pitched

And it only happened in the drive-through?

it did it before when i stationary in traffic but these are the only two 2 times

too loud to be the cooling fan , well at least i think it is

Could have been some water on the auxilliary belt, they squeak like buggery if I spill a bit on them when I am doing washer fluid top ups etc.

Get all the pulleys checked out for play/roughness.

When was the cambelt last done and where all the idlers & tensioner changed ?
