(* "Paralight" is in quotes, because he now works with TrackaPhone Ltd, but I'm sure most on here with recognise him from his posts as James @ Paralight)

Anyway, now to the story….

I've been looking at the options for iPod connectivity since I bought the car in July, and given I'd (figuratively speaking!) sold a kidney to buy the car, I'd convinced myself that a combination of old CDs and a Griffen iTrip would be more than adequate for my entertainment needs. Needless to say, they weren't; CDs require planning to ensure you don't listen to the same 6 albums for eternity and the iTrip hisses its way through your music collection, needing frequent retuning as you drive along, which is something that's nigh on impossible to achieve whilst in motion.

After a fair bit of research, I'd concluded that the Dension Gateway was the solution I wanted, and that fitting it myself was perfectly possible, I'd also noticed that James and Paralight had been heavily involved in the Aston implementation of this, and that James was more than happy to offer advice via the forums, regardless of whether he supplied the kit or not. I like people with that attitude. A lot. So I called him, discussed options and purchased the kit from him.

As luck would have it, he had a job not far from me today, so we planned to meet for me to collect it, rather than via courier. I was, therefore, a bit surprised to hear an unexpected knock on the door from James who "was passing right by".

I was even more surprised when, "let me talk you through the installation" over a cup of tea, quickly turned into, "why don't we go and do it now". i must make damn fine tea, that's all I can say….. biggrin

So a short while later, the car was back together, install completed, and I'd been trusted with removal and refitting of but a single bolt and screw…

Watching him work was certainly an eye opener - whilst there is nothing difficult involved, a very firm yank is needed to remove the top dash trim and there are a *lot* of connectors to remove, most of which are quite fiddly, and hidden from view, so unless you know how, I'm sure would be quite frustrating for the first-timer to work out how to do. I was certainly glad of his help.

If you're thinking about adding an iPod/Phone interface then I'd throughly recommend giving James a call - he really knows his stuff, is very helpful indeed and is also a very nice chap.

Finally, I have no connection to James / Paralight or trackaphone other than reading his advice on PH and through this purchase.

Thanks,
Phil.

fitted mine aswell a few years ago and whilst it works the interface is a complete pita!

best to start a playlist before you set off or just let it shuffle songs.
