PCCB for a 996
Discussion
More Q's on the Ceramics for a 996
I'm currently in the process of trying to evaulate the pro's and con's of PCCBs for my car, after being offered a deal to p/x my steels plus cash.
What is the life expectancy of the disc? I've heard the new ones almost last forever.
If I needed to replace the disc, could I change just the disc and pad to suit a steel set-up? keeping the alloy bells does any company make a steel substitute?
As the seller wants to swop components what is involved in this, can I just swop the discs and calipers, or will it involve hubs and then a full geo set-up afterwards?
I dont intend to track the car on a regular basis, it is a (sort of) daily driver, will they work from cold well?
Thanks.

Am I missing something? I did not see mention of these PCCB`s being used, so if the OP wants to invite opinion about the =/- of PCCB on his car, I think that it is a reasonable question if the £££ numbers add up...
I fear that if we are talking about Genuine Porsche (PCCB) We are talking
OP what are those £££ numbers?

Right, this is the case.
Doner car = 2004 C4S with PCCB, good condition, but not tested by myself yet but would be before any purchase.
Cost, £1500 complete, inc the p/x of my brakes (complete of course)
I have two ramps in garage, doner on one, mine on another, swop all parts easy enough
I could run with the original set of PCCBs if I feel they are good enough, but really I just wanted the calipers hence my question regarding changing the discs and pads to steels.
BTW, every time I buy a second hand car I change the discs and pads because OMFG it would be so dangerous to run with second hand brakes!
Yes I do understand what you're saying to a degree but I dont think it applies in this case, from a scrap yard on a bent/damaged car yes, the doner is a 50k mile very tidy car hpi clear and very straight

Seriously £1500 - tell him to come to my garage because I would offer a lot more money for the swop - bite his hand off before someone else does.Right, this is the case.

That is assuming condition is okay of course

Ken has anyone tried fitting the panamera big brakes yet or would these not work?
Have not looked at that but will take a peek tomorrow to see.I'm having a slightly different issue in that I need something to stop me from let's say 220 whilst brakes are reasonably cold, but also looking at track usage as well. Not easy.
About to run 996 cup calipers front and 997 cup calipers rears together with Girodiscs - will probably run P29s or GT3 compound and see the results. The Girodiscs are not cheap but should last a lot longer.
I know Toby has ceramics on his 3.9GT2 and of course they do work, but we were discussing this just before December at testing and iirc he said you have to trust that they will work because when you first hit the pedal it doesn't always feel that way.
Having said that let's just say a lot of weight is coming out of the car at the moment so hopefully that will help.

Should be a pretty straightforward swap as all 996 PCCBs are 350mm. The only real differences tend to be between the 4WD and 2WD cars as they use different bells on the front.
hi Henry,I got your mail, thanks.. could you send me your email address, or better still your mobile number and I'll send you the info. I'm up in the highlands and struggling to return mail from my phone.
regards

Can you explain why you are considering fitting ceramic brakes to your car?
What exactly is the problem you are having with the steels?
MTR
Are they not supposedly better brakes? I never feel overly confident with mine. The pedal always feels soft, despite being bled up regularly. The service history of the car suggests the previous owner felt the same way getting them serviced regularly too. What exactly is the problem you are having with the steels?

I was hoping the 6 pots would give much better bite and the ceramics would last longer than steels?
Does anyone have an idea of the life of these early ceramic disc/pads?
The donor has good history so could check to see when last replacement was I guess.
