I have a BA Amex credit card and a few debit cards - is there another credit card I can get to use when people don't accept amex that will accumulate BA miles, ideally visa?

It depends if you still want to collect miles or not and if you are prepared to collect different miles? If not, I would be looking for a cashback card.

Personally and with work, I tend to fly a mixture of BA and Virgin. At the moment, everything seems to be working out BA but a few years ago everything was Virgin.

I now collect both BA Miles / Avios with BA as well as Virgin miles. If you accept that you should collect both then:

Instead of the BA card, get the Virgin Miles Card which gives you both an Amex and a Visa card linked to the same account. You earn a different amount of miles between the Amex and the Visa, but now it means you can always collect miles when spending.

It does mean you split your miles across 2 schemes but for me, this is the best of both worlds as you have both options for reward flights and never feel that loyal to one nor the other. which can colour your booking decisions.
