944 INTERIOR HEATER ON BLOWS HOT AIR
Discussion
I bought my 944s, 1988. several weeks ago, since i have had the car it has only blown hot air out all the time,( i can control the speed of the fan motor still)it will not blown any cold air into the car. I asked a local garage to look at it and he told me it was the heater control panel, so i bought a new one and that has made no difference what so ever, so before i waste any more money on stuff that doesnt work i thought i would see if anyone has had this problem in the past, or does anyone have an idea what it may be. PLEASE I NEED HELP, CANT STAND THE HEAT ANY LONGER.

Lee, I'm sorry to hear you bought a new control panel
as this will almost certainly be a very simple and common problem. Take out the glovebox liner (undo 5 screws, and slide it out being careful with the glovebox light) and you will see a couple of metal rods to the right. These are connected with a white plastic clip.
This clip will have broken
and its designed to fail at full heat in case its in the middle of winter. A new clip is just over a quid from your local Porsche dealer.
IIRC there are pictures at www.clarks-garage.com in the 'Garage Workshop Manual' but the site seems to be down just now.
Just remembered - disconnect the battery first or you will probably blow some fuses whilst twisting the glovebox bulb (ask me how I know
)

It was simply because the top of the original had several long cracks in it caused by many years of sunshine (yes in this country
) I'd been looking for a good blue dash for 2 years when I finally found one advertised on Pistonheads (Thanks TED
)
I then kept the dash in the dining room for 6 weeks before plucking up courage to do the swap. It was surprsingly easy using instructions from www.clarks-garage.com and took a total of 6 hours in the sunshine last week.
Most satisfying - and no new rattles either
