RECRUITING: Hard-core car nut wanted!
Discussion
I feel a little cheeky posting this message here, but this is a genuine job my company is recruiting for and it is perfect for someone who has always wanted to work with cars, but has never managed to crack into the industry:

CLIENT EXECUTIVE POSITION
£22-25,000
Based in Ealing, West London
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Love of cars
- Attention to detail
- Great communication skills
COMPANY DETAILS:
Based in Ealing, in West London, Palmdale was established 6 years ago with one goal - to enable ANYBODY to get a fair deal on buying a new or used car.
Everything we do revolves around this principle and our clients are typically people who do not feel comfortable buying a car themselves because they fear they will either end up with a bad car, a bad deal... or both.
Additionally, some of our clients are busy professionals who just do not have the time to source a car for themselves. Our goal is always to secure the best possible car at the best possible price without the client doing ANY of the work.
You can find out more about how we do this on our website – www.palmdale.co.uk
THE ROLE
Our current growth means that we now need someone who can take responsibility for making sure that our clients get everything they need, and the absolutely best customer service available.
The role will include a lot of client contact.
This will start right from the initial enquiry, and will include advising what cars may best suit the client’s needs and then completing the relevant paperwork to enable them to officially become a Palmdale client.
Next the successful applicant will need to search out every car available in the UK and pass the details of these cars on to a colleague who will contact each dealer/seller to negotiate on the prices and gain more details on each car.
After that you will need to choose the best 3 to 4 cars, present these to the client over email and help them decide which is the best car for them.
Finally, you will need to liaise with the dealer and our team of drivers to arrange collection of the car and delivery to the client.
After that we still like to make sure that the client is happy and with all of this comes a proportion of less exciting, but critical administration work.
CRITERIA
The person we are looking for should have the following skills... in this order too:
1) You must be a car nut – all Palmdale employees are car-obsessed. But as well as being happy to talk about Ferraris, Bentleys and classic Mustangs, you need to have a genuine love for all cars... even the Ford Focus (of which we source quite a few!).
2) You must be very detail orientated – The devil is in the detail, and one tiny misinterpretation of a seemingly inconsequential bit of data can make the difference between a good car and a bad car.
3) Great communication – You will be dealing with a variety of clients from housewives up to celebrities, various car dealers, some private sellers, all our suppliers and many more. They will all need you to have great verbal and written communication skills.
4) Organisation – You will be handling a variety of different projects at different times, often under pressure
5) Process orientated – Everything we do is governed by a process that will need to be followed precisely.
6) IT savvy - Our research is mostly internet-based and we use Word, Excel and html coding in which we would expect you to be skilled
It is important for all candidates to appreciate that there is one thing we don’t need – motor industry experience. This is a rare chance to get into the car industry without car industry experience.
By joining Palmdale you will be joining a small team and an extremely fast growing company. We will need you to be committed, enthusiastic, flexible and have a can-do attitude. In return we offer an exciting and supportive work environment… and one where you get to work with cars!
APPLICATION PROCESS
To apply, please send a copy of your CV along with your answer (in no more than 100 words) to the following question:
“If you could arrive at an interview in a car that most represented your personality, which one would it be and why?”
Please email both these items to jobs@palmdale.co.uk
The closing date for applications is 09:00 Thursday 26 January. Interviews are likely to take place the following week (31 January & 1 February).

Sounds like a really good job, I'm currently in the trade but the commute for me is just too far. Think you called my place the other day and if I'm not mistaken have met you on a couple of meets.
Ha ha! Quite possibly... I really do get around! Make sure you say hello next time you see me.jimslops said:
I thought good car salesmen should expect to earn £30-70k depending on dealer etc etc
Not £22k-25k...
No one else has mentioned it so it perhaps is decent.
It used to be that a good cars salesman would earn that but not any more, sadly. It would have been a very low basic and then the rest as commission. Not £22k-25k...
No one else has mentioned it so it perhaps is decent.
Also, this role is not a sales role. No targets, no pressure, just taking care of clients. Easy huh?
